16 | Rodri 2025/26

I'd care more if Nico Gonzales wasn't smashing it.

Whilst I do agree Nico G has had a monumental upturn this season and is filling in for Rodri thus far this season with great success, I do firmly believe that if we want to win the league or Champions League, we need Rodri back in that midfield.

For as good as he has been this season, I don't think we will win enough of the big games with Nico G in midfield.

We go from being a very good team with Nico G in midfield, to a world class team once again once we get Rodri back.

Our spine would be as good as anything in Europe. Arguably the best.

I don't want him rushed back. We tried that earlier in the season, which didn't work out too well. Nico G is doing fine for now.

You're basing that on Rodri coming back as he was before the injury. I honestly don't think he will

He will never be the player he once was but he can get back to being an exceptional midfielder once again.

Anyone expecting Ballon d'Or Rodri back, even this time next year after full recovery, is going to be disappointed.

Wrong.

Nico looks like he needs a rest. I hope Rodri’s absence doesn’t go on much longer. If we have neither that’s not good for us.

I think it’s time to buy another midfielder anyway.

Rodri has missed nearly all of 1.5 seasons now.
Much too long for someone in their late twenties. People saying sit out another year are being beyond careful. He's long past a reasonable time for a return to playing fitness. If I'm running the squad I'm proceeding with the idea that we need another player who can play in the 6. It's a damn shame for Rodri, the club and all of us supporters that this has happened. If by some chance he's able to make it back, great, but there's no way City should be counting on it...

The lack of transparency around what’s exactly going on with him is becoming incredibly grating. At what point does he come back? Never? Why isn’t there any meaningful update of substance?
Why do you think? Because he's cooked and the club don't want to tip off any potential transfer partners that we're in any way desperate. As if the fact that he's become the unplayable man is fooling anyone.

Very rare a footballer can in effect have 18 months out after a serious career threatening injury at near 30 years old and come back the same player.

I am more concerned whether or not he signs a new contract in the next few months. If that doesn't happen he wants out in the summer, and City won't allow him to run down his contract.
Facts...

Massive speculation on Rodri’s ability to stay fit and also his contract situation.

All we can do is ease him back in again and see what happens.

Signing a contract or not is here nor there. The club has stood by him during this difficult period. I would be very surprised if that wasn’t a huge factor when thinking about his future.
