Antoine Semenyo | Prefers to join City - Ornstein (p73)

Not signing players on the basis of their nationality isn't rational its superstition like deciding on the basis of their star sign or eye colour. Some English based players have worked some haven't .
Whether Semenyo works or not depends on his qualities not on his nationality. (Ghanaian for footballing purposes.)
Semenyo is english in reality. thats not my issue, he might turn out to be a Sadio Mane type signing for us. My issue is paying a massive premium for a player with a short window of being decent when weve had much more consistent value in going to the mid-value tier in europe

Some players work out some don't. It's not an exact science.
Jack is kinda in the middle, had his moments but never had the consistency. Fans whinging non stop about the price are just a bit odd and need to get out more.

City have a history of walking away from players' agents attempts at "interest" from other clubs in order to jack up the price or in this case wages by some kind of auction. (See the piano player) If his interest in us is based solely on how much he can extract from us in remuneration on his contract beyond the level we have valued him at, then we will walk. It's never "done" until he's holding up the shirt in a presser!

bailing out of a debate with 'you're a bit odd' - that old classic.

any business will evaluate the investments made and whether they have paid off and/or the capital payoff period v additional efficiency or raise in turnover. what i am arguing for is that the hit rate with non-premier league players is higher especially given the value needing to be paid to procure the services of mid table fodder who looks good on a MOTD every 6 weeks. We have had much more success buying similar age players from abroad, much better than 'some work out some dont'

Bournemouth, Palace, Brighton, Brentford - they are all the southern hipster's favorites and I don't believe their players have proven consistent performers to warrant a step up to city where the bad game-every two isn't as easily tolerated.

A players like Wharton will get jizz soaked by the media for a pass every four games but then his dogshit defending at corners as per the other day against Leeds is completely ignored.

Business's can evaluate the investments made, fans who do it are a bit odd.

Marmoush is a great player but he doesn’t fit the style Guardiola plays. Savio brings zero goal threat currently. Semenyo is a better fit than either of those players and would massively improve us.
I don't think Semenyo does either but Marmoush should be given another crack before bringing in another attacking signing.

They don't restrict by citizenship/nationality. 'Home grown' doesn't mean born here or represents here
No, that’s why I said ‘partly’. But they have the effect of constricting signings eg a Brit is more likely to be home grown than an American. I thought it was obvious!

If the clause is activated on the 1st then he doesn’t have to play?
