26 | Savinho - 2025/26

Honestly, not a fan of his game and his antics from August until now. But with no Doku, Marmoush, or Semenyo around, Savinho has to play. As daft as it sounds, he offers way more going forward than Reijnders, who scored a goal but also gifted them a goal with that turnover.

Reijnders in the XI kills two birds with one stone (negatively speaking): we get absolutely zero width on either side. Savinho, by constantly switching flanks, would cause chaos in their defence.

The second, even bigger issue, is Foden isn't central, which makes us far less effective as a team.
We actually started playing when Foden finally drifted inside yesterday. The moment he and Cherki link up near each other, we look immense and like we're cooking something. So until Doku or Semenyo are back, I'm all for Savinho starting. We look so much more fluid with a proper winger out wide instead of an improvised one

Totally agree. We miss Doku big time but without him i’d take Savinho playing to create more space for Foden and Cherki. Although Reijnders scored you’re taking a lot from Foden’s natural game to get Reijnders in to the team.

Pretty impressive stats for a 21 year old.

He's done the job of being the reliable sub who offers a new outlet very well the last few games. Think people can see the passing, dribbling, vision and tempo are all there.

I do like Semenyo and would be happy if he joined but it's worth remembering he wasn't really close to Sav's level at 21.

Still think we've got a top 10 winger in the making here. Got to fix the finishing over the next 2 years, but it's a good sign we fixed more with Doku in 2 years (who's an incredible player now) than we actually need to in Sav.

Giving the ball away the first time he touched it notwithstanding, he showed flashes of grounds for optimism yesterday. Since Pep started the current run of bringing him off the bench for the last 15 mins, he’s repeatedly burned the opposition full back for pace. Just needs to be more focused in respect of his end product once he’s in the clear and work hard defensively (something he’s merited deserved criticism for) and we might have an asset on our hands after all. I stress ‘might’……

Semenyo, who everyone wants to replace him with, at the same age was scoring 2 goals in 40 odd games in the Championship. Just for some perspective.

I like the way Pep is using Savinho now, is setting him up up to succeed, bringing him on when the game is more stretched and against a tired full-back. I feel like last season he asked too much of him.

I'd hardly class slipping on the edge of Forest's area as gifting them a goal!

He was injured and did not have a consistent run of games. There is no magical want in football be patient and the results will come.

His substitution vs Forest was key to winning the game.
Not sure that he should be given much credit for Pep moving Phil to his correct position ;-/ ? That was what changed things.

Certainly had some better moments of late - needs to turn those into some better games, though.

I'm not his biggest fan but I can see a work in progress. Savinho is a useful substitute in tight games at the moment. Did well yesterday as the outlet we needed to push Forest back when they were chasing an equaliser. Semenyo will give him even more competition for a place but that's what happens when you play for a club like City.
Takes time for new players to bed into the premier, Particularly the effort required. He's only 22 and just starting to realise this. Great outlet for games in last 10 mins or so and for early round cup games and maybe some teams at home in the prem as a starter. Helps with rotation. He will be a useful addition next season I think.
