Marc Guehi | Leading target for City (p28)

I'm not saying he's not a decent player, but being slightly better and slightly worse at different aspects of the game isn't enough to fuck off a player we bought a few months ago for a shiny new toy. If Reijnders had been a complete flop (and if you believe the matchday thread, he has been), there might be an argument.

Reijnders will get there no doubt imo. With the chances he has missed he could have 7-10 goals this season already but at least he was there to miss? Many forget it’s a big culture change for not only the player but their family as well so give him the season and while I have no doubt he will have important impact this season that next we will see a double digit season from him and a big improvement as he has settled and understands the faster and more physical premier league.

Im in the posh seats for Palace vs Fulham in a few days will be interesting to see what the talk around him is and also how he plays.

No I wouldn't get rid, I like Reijnders I just think a lot of fans thought he'd be like Gundo. But he's never been that player he was so good at Milan as an attacking midfielder. Past two games he's started playing that role and he's scored.

In my opinion if we did get Gibbs White it would give us just another option in midfield plus he's homegrown.

looking at Reijnders it reminds me of Bernardo first season and the time it took him to settle into the Pep system.

You see where you're going wrong there, don't you?

Yeah I can see that mate but Reijnders biggest problem this season so far was his debut? Doing that well has hindered him
In a way in some fans eyes but he IS going to be a success here.

I just can't see the club spending the necessary money, especially after he signed a contract extension in the summer. We're getting Semenyo, and we're supposedly interested in Anderson, Guehi, and perhaps still Livramento, so that would be a good chunk of money spent upping the homegrown quota (and it's actually only four association trained anyway - the rest need to be club trained). Unless his new contract has some sort of release clause, I just can't see us also going for Gibbs-White again.

I agree on that Wolves performance set a benchmark in some fans eyes, but then again it was Wolves. He'll come good just need some patience.

I watched Palace/Spuds, and in particular, just Guehi & Wharton....Guehi is no better than what we have at best....Wharton, like Gibbs-White is a level below ours, at best.
I do think with Guehi he’s probably mentally out the door. Even Glasner wants to leave it’s not a good position to be in. They’ve also had a few injuries and it’s not a big squad, their 11 work well together but some of the squad players aren’t good enough to keep that form up.

I know what you mean about players not being out level. I guess it’s about finding a player that has all the qualities to grow. Not a project but an experienced 1st team player ready for that jump. Like Dias, Gvardiol, Stones etc all were.

Guehi being no better than what we have isn’t exactly a criticism surely. We have some immensely talented players. It’s how far off them he is, if miles off not worth it but I don’t think he is.

I think he’d be great here.

I've had similar thoughts, then read posts on here about the pair of them and how we should be all in for them. So I've watched them again and they both just don't stand out in my opinion.

Wharton is top on the ball, not afraid to pass forward which we’ve missed from that position in Rodri’s absence but he has none of the requisite qualities off the ball to play for us.

If we want someone to replace Bernardo next year, we need someone who runs like a mad man and can take the ball anywhere, Wharton can sort of do the latter.

If we want someone to rotate with Nico and Rodri or provide some steel alongside them, he’s also not the man.

Guehi reminds me of an Akanji, Ake type signing, very good consistent centre half in their prime, versatile and level headed.

If he’s replacing Ake then full steam ahead imo, he’ll have to fight Gvardiol for a starting place in the big games.

Love Ruben but he was naff last season and had a mixed bag the one before and it’s been a long road back to where he is now, which is somewhere close enough to his best.

Felt his leadership, which was the reason he got the nod over Laporte all that time ago, in the turmoil of our demise last season was sorely lacking.

Think he’s a defender who needs good players around him to cover his own flaws, which he now has with a couple pacy physical fullbacks and Gvardiol having moved to centre half.

Never felt like that’s been the case with Kompany, Laporte, Stones and so on but that might be rose tinted specs.

Certainly a difference between valid criticism and some of the shite he gets on here and I imagine social media though.
Of all our CBs he has been the grown up in the room. All the others needed their hands holding to some extent, Stones included. They didn’t have his mentality
