Sunderland (A) | PL | Post Match Thread

Don't disagree. Foden, O'Reilly, Haaland, Nico all poor. Nico has come a long way, but fuck me, a half fit Rodri is another 3 or 4 levels up.

The gilt edged missed sitter sticks in my craw more than anything the others did though.
Gonzo has impressed me, grown into the role but seeing Rodri made me realize just how big those shoes of his are to fill. Maybe even grants Nico G even more grace as he's filled the void, but Rodri when on is on an entirely different level.

Well I for one thought that was very decent performance. Especially second half. Only 1 team looked capable of winning and as well as Sunderland defended we still created opportunities.
Sometimes in sport you don’t get what is deserved from the performance. Thats the beauty of it.
But if we play like that in all away games from now until the end of the season then I for one would be delighted and believe we’d win a good 80%+ of those games
An incomplete performance because we created chances, and didn't finish them.

Think the offside goal galvanised them the crowd seem to get up for it after that We didn’t quieten the crowd until into the second half they were a 12th man wonder where they were when they were shit but credit to them

A good point IMO, we are entitled to nothing, we worked hard and earned our point in what is this season a difficult place to get anything from, well done lads and a special mention for the lads and lasses who travelled up tonight great support as always.

22 points out of 24 in our last eight games, and some people are writing us off. We’re still a work in progress, and I think Arsenal are rightly favourites for the title, but we’re having a really good season in the circumstances.
I didnt think we would win the league this season but we are well ahead in terms of progress. Keep getting the right players (semenyo a great start) in and we will be in a position to get back to the top next season, I'm wouldn't count us out this year yet either.

Sunderland played very well and their workrate was outstanding tonight.
It feels like a loss, but in truth, we did ok with an away draw against a team who were totally up for it, and (to my mind) were going for the win themselves.

I was hoping we might trade places with Arsenal over the new year, but it wasn't to be. We're only half way through the season - we have a good record of being the chasers.

Nothing wrong with the set up, but we were so fucking wasteful in front of goal, against a team that just work hard and are set up to disrupt. Big 2 points dropped tonight.

Was this Rodri's best performance of the season given he has played some minutes here and there? I thought he was good too, in what was a challenging game.

If this game marks a successful rehab. then it will turn into a very good night indeed although we won't know that for some time. Providing Rodri has come through this without discomfort, then he must be happy tonight.

If the journalists are reading, ask Pep about this in the next press conference. It is an important question. Is Rodri, pain-free?

They won't ask that, and you know it. It'll be all about how City failed to get 3 points, how this puts pressure on the team in contrast to Arsenal.

Hopefully Rodri is fully back. We need him

Nunes got slated on the radio commentary, and I thought both our full backs were really poor tonight.
From that comment, you watched it on the radio ?

Nico OR got a knock and played on, as did Ake, both played fine, and Nunes was one of our best players. Dias was the best defender, but they all played well, and Gvardiol who replaced NOR was our best attacking player, as well as defended well.

Like I say you listen to what others think.. Sav should score a few more of that there is no doubt but he's been decent the last month or so but obviously you can't see anything positive.. It's not like Doku scores she'd loads either.. And yes I really like Doku too. He's really good at beating players but often lacks an end product..
I can't be added replying any further as it's fucking pointless..
Enjoy the New year
Yep different opinions. Not unusual over players. HNY to you mate.

Shocking two points to drop against probably the most limited team in the premier league
Sunderland are determined and gutsy though, and they've showed a lot more fight than the likes of Wolves have this season ..... Savinho and Haaland had clear chances, but aside from those opportunities Sunderland handled everything we could throw at them pretty well tonight.

Commentary on my side of the pond was going on about how Phil was "taking control of the game" with 20 to go. I thought I was either dissociating, hallucinating or going into a Zen trance as I didn't see that at all and the Phil I saw looked like he was coming off a bender.

I'm still really torn about Erl. He rips it up at times and it's amazing and awesome... then he goes missing for stretches and sometimes- like today- he's a detriment and IMO we'd be better off false nining it. --- Then he scores a goal in the next match and i feel it's the recency effect as all's forgiven for another half dozen games- we win with other's contributions- until he's 100% invisible again against a better opponent (ala today), we drop points and the question comes up again. He's got to evolve his game and find a way to influence it when the goals aren't going in.

He's a beast... but his behavior of pouting and calling out non passes to him when he could be channeling his energy positively... especially when he's doing little else... maybe it's the incense in the monestary but he needs to drop the Zen pose celebration until he evolved as when it's not going his way... he's anything but Zen.
Are you sure you are ‘Zen’?

Does ‘Zen’ work hard or is it given on a plate?

Isn’t Zen about understanding, especially after the fact?

And thou still doesn’t understand, nor accept, the Zen.

I am not buying it mate, this team just cannot handle extremely intense press what Sunderland were doing to us in the first half. They simply cannot establish any control and they are waiting for the opposition to tire.
Nothing about hitting and fouling, this was a carbon copy of Villa game or the second half Brighton game when they overturned our lead, we are just overrun struggling to do anything.
Pep decided to play with "underloading" tactics where Erling is not involved in 98% of the game.

Three games in which the officials allowed Brighton, Villa and now Sunderland to kick us at will, with zero punishment.
I have no interest in thuggery masquerading as football. FFS players are being picked on their ability to throw the ball 30 metres.
It's shit and has been since agent Webb came back. The twat who tried to cripple Nico G, should have seen red.
