Next academy stars?

Ben Vickery, the U18 goalkeeper, was signed from Hibs and was part of the Scottish youth national team, but has recently been called up by England.

Angus Gunn maybe? When was Paul Ritchie with us? I’m getting old.

I'm not sure Gunn counts.

A. He never appeared for the first team.
B. He hadn't yet changed allegiances to Scotland and was playing for England U21s.

Last one I can think of was Dickov in his second spell. Believe he was here as recently as the 2007/08 season. Think Ritchie left in the early 2000s.

Paul Mabaza Ritchie was a top player with Hearts and did ok at City

No one up here has really seen much of Keir as he was too young to play in games.
Hearts academy is really pretty decent.

I've just remembered we got 2 players from up here (Celtic & Hearts maybe) a year or two ago, damned if I recall their names though.

Josh Adam and Liam Smith? Neither set the world alight here tbh, Adam is now in the Czech 2nd division and Smith in the Scottish 3rd division. We also signed Dire Mebude from Rangers, he's now playing for Westerlo in Belgium

A midfielder by all accounts who's 16 next month. I've been trying to recall the last Scot we had in the 1st team at least? Surely it can't be all the way back to the likes of Gerry Gow and Tommy Hutchinson?

I think Dickov is actually the last one as others have said unless I've missed a youth who actually played.

Other youths not mentioned are local lad Lewis Fiorini representing Scotland, although he never looked good enough to break through he was always a fun dynamic player to watch in the youths.

I'm surprised his career isn't planning out a little better than it currently is, there's still time to establish himself as a decent championship or top league one player though

Adedire Mebude (didn't see comment above me at first) looked great in the youth sides only a few years back but his career has completely stalled, think when he left us he thought he'd move to a mid table Belgian club to hasten development despite having bigger teams interested, he's not had a good time so far after moving there but is another Scottish youth international with time on his side.

There are around 25 players in each squad U21 and U18. Players from U18 squad can and have played for both squads.

I don’t think there are squads that are definitive size wise as there are movements between age groups depending on ability and the club trying to give young youth players opportunities to see how they handle stepping up in age groups. The next age group being u16 and U15’s before reaching U18.

It is possible for players to come up from lower to U18’s as well as seen with Theo Chimpango 15 who has had a couple of sub appearances for U18’s. He represented City in the Messi Cup which was covered well on this forum from some really dedicated Bluemooners.

looking forward to seeing Keir mcmeekin play for city. Scottish friend told me he has been seen as an exceptional prospect for a few years.Played for hearts first team at age of 15 in behind closed doors friendlies and he apparently didnt look out of place and impressed with his decision making.

If the Jambos are looking for young players they should take a look at Rory Wilson 20 at Aston Villa. Absolute Prolific scorer at U18. Not too shabby in U21 either. In UEFA youth league this season he scored 5 goals from 4 before going out of competition. Villa have interest from Denmark for him, surely the Scottish league can compete?

If they want to make amends from losing McMeekin to City. They need to play the same game.

The benefits of our academy can be found across the leagues. Nonleague benefits. Sport and community gain coaches, experiences, and expertise. Good for the game. I wonder what the next step for the CFA will be.
