United (A) | PL | Post Match Thread

Shitshow today. Disappointing. We've won 10 drawn 3 and lost 1 of last 14 games following the debacle against Bayer Leverkusen. We've lost a bit of momentum recently. We are playing 3 games a week. Hopefully we can bounce back. Come on City!

We have to move on and start again with the next game, Thats how it works

I am still trying to get my head around this bizarre, arrogant, relentless style of football we have been playing for 2 and a half seasons. We somehow got away with it and managed to win the league the season before last but it is still the same. The main two things being:
- Insanely high back line
- Relentless amounts of trying to dribble into the box

We do not change this at all. We have played our best football in recent years when we play deep, dominate the midfield, and have a double attacking pivot with overlapping full backs and inverted wingers. I suppose the realty is, the likes of David, Kevin, Gundog and Mahrez are gone.

Why would he have been rushed in though. Hope you’re right and It is flu, I’m fearing the worst after that Tolmie tweet.
I didn’t see a tweet I was going off people saying he had been seen there. :-) I knew nothing about rushed in.
Mind you, in a similar way to them not saying which of the astronauts had been taken ill on the space station he is entitled to privacy if he was rushed in.

You don't mind losing as long as you've put everything in and fought until the end. There was none of that on show today, totally insipid and lifeless. Pep has actually come out and said it wasn't a bad performance, fuck me, really pep ,really. It was utter gash the first 45 I saw and presumably didn't improve much in the 2nd 45.
Not sure how much Pep has left in the tank,we can't seem to put in top performances any more, been getting the results but playing bang average.
Form is now dropping off a cliff and we're now in a top four battle

We're now just another top six side fighting for the top four and a cup.Arsenal are ahead of us now squad wise and getting results. They might not be entertaining but they are effective. We've lost four world class players that set us apart from the rest. Walker, De Bruyne, Gundogan and Rodri. I'm including Rodri because we've done without him for almost two years and atm there are no signs he'll be back to the player he was. Who's world class in this squad now? Donnarumma and that's it. I'm not included Haaland because in spite of his goals record he has far too many games like today when he's just a passenger.

Will Cherki, Rjeinders, Samenyo and Doku mature to become world class? I have my doubts. Good players yes but on a par with what we've lost? Time will tell. Foden is another great things were expected of. Sadly he's too inconsistent. He has probably 10-12 good games a season and the rest he's bang average.

The treble winning squad was a once in a generation one, which is why it's only ever been won twice over the years. We were privileged to see it. We can hope we get close to such heights again but it looks a long shot at the moment.

Just go and get the result and qualify on Tuesday, we all know the rags would give up todays result to be in the knockout stages of the CL

In my 50 years of watching this club, I really don’t think I can remember such an abject Derby performance.
Have seen plenty of defeats by the RAGS especially when we didn’t have the recourses we have now.
Today the lack of effort, reaction, physicality and leadership was appalling.

Also now signed Semenyo who if we continue with this drab brand of football will be added to our recent list of expensive flops

Absolutely pal, this is without a doubt the worst squad Pep has had to work with in his ten seasons here, and considering the money spent on it it's a pretty damning statement. So fucked off with that today following on from shite at Sunderland and Chelsea

I feared a defeat given the defence we had to put out today but the lack of bollocks and effort today was criminal.

I don’t understand why we always seem to be converting players from their proper positions: Fabian Delph, Zinchenko, Nunez, Stones etc. Why can’t we ever get the right players in their proper positions? It may be necessary from time to time due to injuries, but we’ve been doing it for so long now, why? A solid defence is the foundation that you can build from so why is it always so makeshift?
Yes, frustrating. Not everybody on here will agree, though.

I read loads of posts about so-called fullbacks having been brilliant because they've had an assist, or scored - it's almost as though some think that a rock-solid defender who barely ventures forward is a total waste of a player.

I think that 6 attacking players is plenty, if they're good enough. They also wouldn't be falling over each other, like ours sometimes do, having compressed the entire match into the final 30m of the pitch.

The importance of Walker is starting to come to fruition now.
