Bodo/Glimt (A) | CL | Post Match Thread

we need a win against Galatasaray to clinch a top-eight place... Ii'll leave the pearl-clutching for a bit - over to the music thread

I seldom enjoy watching us these days. Our emphasis seems to be on recycling possession and playing a kamikaze high line.

The defeat at the weekend hurt more as we never threatened against a distinctly average United team. It was akin to a game in the mid 2000s only against weaker opposition this time around.

Every side now does the exact same thing against us, defend deep, crowd the penalty area, give Haaland no room to run into and wait for an opportunity to break at pace into the wide open spaces of our half. We need to develop new tactics. Our tactics have now been sussed and teams are quite happy for us to have 60% possession without getting into the penalty area.

Cancelo was never particularly good at defending but he was excellent going forward and was able to do the defensive basics most of the time. Ait Nouri can't defend at all and is nowhere near the same level of threat going forward.

Again, the drop in quality in this position is stark. Seems like a familiar theme throughout various positions from where we once were, not sure why.

Too much focus at the whole club on buying ‘nice lads’ instead of win at any cost players. Need far more aggressive, in your face players who don’t fanny about or let their heads go down if we concede.

Where are the players these days with the attitude of Terry, Vieira, Keane, Adams, Shearer? Not just in our team, but throughout the league really.

To repeat myself, the source of the injury crisis is keeping Stones and Ake 2 years after the start of their decline (23/24) and not replacing Akanji who was mostly available and good enough to rotate Dias and Gvardiol.

Let's hope Guehi hits the ground running.

To derail another season with an injury crisis after repeating the same mistake from the previous season is unacceptable.
fully agree

It was also keeping KDB a year too long and bringing Gundo back

and waiting to replace Walke when the decline was there for all to see

Prediction time....

We are now stuck with at least 2, possibly 3 who are also going to be burdens...Lewis, Reijnders and Alt Nouri - these players will turn into issues just like not getting rid of Stones and Ake - but for slightly different reasons.

After a couple of very promising performances by Alleyne, it’s suddenly apparent why he’s been on loan to Watford

But he’s still better than Rico fucking Lewis
For the second goal he got done by the bounce of the plastic pitch, but no fucker covered for him and for the second time the goal scorer was left unmarked. I don’t blame him whatsoever. It’s Pep who’s to blame for leaving him with no cover.

Semenyo and Guehi ARE high quality talents. It doesn't matter, however, if they and a boatload of regular starters are injured and the manager has lost his way and0 now doesn't have a clue (hint: adjust your formation, if necessary, in order to not play such a high defensive line). I hope Pep is thrilled to continue on with a small squad. HIs fingerprints are all over our precipitous decline the last two seasons.
But we don't have a small squad.
Its the same as most.
What we do have though is several injured players who are not available, several since the start of the season. I think we all had a good idea that Kovacic , Stones and Ake could not be relied upon to be available and Bobb/ Rodri would take a long time to reach full fitness.
Several young and inexperienced players bought and loaned out while replacements for KDB, Gundogan, Walker not currently up to their standard.

Look at the cross in the first half. A perfect opportunity to put in a decent cross, not under a great deal of pressure, we had two players in to their three. It went straight to their keeper, no direction on it at all. Terrible attempt for a professional footballer.

Yep, i like his enthusiasm to get forward, but he generally does 'next to nothing ' once he gets there .... I lost count of the aimless passes he tried to make to teammates, even late on as we tried to get back into the game.

Having 5 players defending and 5 attacking.

There was a limited time where overloading and having 6 attacking worked, but it doesn’t now and that’s largely why we look all over the place in transition.

We also need the press to work better to stop the opposition having time t9 pick the pass for the counter attack.

Or, if we’re really worried about exposing the back line, play 6 defensive minded and 4 attackers.
I’m a glass half empty kind of woman, I’ll go with your latter.

Look at the difference man. Pass and move, pass and move, pass and move - all with movement off the ball from players trying to create angles for those on the ball. Night and day to the shit served up now.

And all done with a purpose. The final pass for Sane would probably not be played anymore and would be played backwards instead…

Horrible feeling but the last two results feel like the end of an era and huge changes are inevitable and imminent
Well according to many that happened last season and we're now in transition and undergoing a rebuild. Been shit recently and the excuses are wearing feeler gauge thin. Players and coaching staff need an effing rocket up the jacksy.
