Bodo/Glimt (A) | CL | Post Match Thread

Another thoroughly disappointing result following on from Saturday's debacle. The same old failings were evident, that ridiculously stupid high line, no midfield and all the team in a horse shoe around the penalty box passing the ball from side to side. We have no pace in our attack, our shooting is woeful and we look completely disorganised.
I am not going to blame the players at all and I do think they are trying but over the last two games they have looked poorly coached, disjointed and not at all sure of what they are supposed to be doing.
Tonight we had a left back - no matter what you think of his defensive capabilities playing as a right back. Towards the end of the game our central defender ended up running down the right wing trying to put a cross in surround by two BG player, our central defender who has barely played most of the season.
Yes we have injuries but that was still a team that should have been capable of getting at least a draw. It was our tactics that caused the players the problems and some of those players have been hung out to dry because of them.
Rodri's red card was daft, he should have known better, and experienced international, he was probably pissed off like all of us.

Worryingly, Semenyo looks like he’s already caught the ‘don’t attack your full back, keep playing it backwards’ bug.
Given that 4 weeks ago he ran the rags defence ragged, if he’s being told to do that against an already booked Fatty Shaw, he’ll become another disappointment, which will be criminal.
Our problem is the team as a whole move up the pitch together. The back four play it sideways and move forward as we do it. The opponents backtrack with 11 men behind the ball. We get over the half way line and move the ball out wide but by this time the wingers have nowhere to run, no space behind the defender to attack because there is usually 21 players in one half. When on the odd occasion they do find space behind they get doubled up and neither full backs overlap and pull a defender away either because they're both not natural full backs or are being told not to do it so we always have to come back and play a safe ball inside and on it goes. When we lose the ball inevitably we get hit on the break as everyone is congested on the edge of the opposing box. How many times have we seen Savinho or Doku and others run the ball out of play because there just isn't any space to get behind the defenders with our slow slow everyone push up build up.

Wise words from the Mrs....."You can still win League and all the cups, so stop fucking whinging like a wee **** and put the bin out!"
Ahhh, putting the bin out after a City defeat, it’s almost like my Arkwright end of the day summary, looking up at the stars and contemplating what could have been

Semenyo and Guehi ARE high quality talents. It doesn't matter, however, if they and a boatload of regular starters are injured and the manager has lost his way and0 now doesn't have a clue (hint: adjust your formation, if necessary, in order to not play such a high defensive line). I hope Pep is thrilled to continue on with a small squad. HIs fingerprints are all over our precipitous decline the last two seasons.
No doubt he needs to be accountable for formation , tactics , training etc and its evident we are poor at set pieces and lack intensity and pace now.

I don't think its the size of the squad that is the main problem its the lack of quality and depth. In the hay days we could cover injuries because our second eleven could on any day beat our first eleven and that's no longer the case.

Lets hope you are right re our recent signings and that the likes of Nico and Cherki can establish themselves as top lone players week in week out but IMO by and large our transfer activity has been well short of what it needs to be to play the likes of Glint off the park on their own patch rather than the other way around as it was today.

Simply put, another powder puff performance.
Feels so stale to me.No I dont want Pep out but his tactics are not suitable for this set of players.
Not 1, simply not 1 coming out with ANY credit.

I have never seen a team with 20 yards of space in front of them literally stop and turn back to play a safe five yard pass!!
Its fucking boring, but more so its not working. If Pep cant see that then yes his position is at risk, whatever so called credit he has.
Haaland is a waste of a shirt along with Foden right now. Zero effort, zero energy.
As for Rico Lewis. Sell him to the highest bidder because if you think he is capable at this level then I can assure you he is not.
Rjeinders is not good enough either.
From Vinny, Zabba,Yaya,Silva,Sane,Sterling,KDB, Aguero,Mahrez to what we have now. Not 1 not fucking 1 are fit to lace there boots.
See you at Wolves

I wouldnt say Semenyo is

He is a strong prem player but I wouldnt say high quality.....at present he has his limitations due to the way we play

Had a crap day!
It was really stressful at work. When I got home I went for a walk only to get bitten by a stranger's dog.
I then found out the Internet was down.
I went round to a friends to watch the match but there was an accident enroute so it took ages to get there. I arrived 20 minutes into the game, and when I did she was still working and on a Team's call so I had to watch the first half with the sound on mute.
To cap it all off, I had to watch that dross as we were comprehensively beaten and outplayed by a group of minnows.

Hope you got home alright at least

For the second goal he got done by the bounce of the plastic pitch, but no fucker covered for him and for the second time the goal scorer was left unmarked. I don’t blame him whatsoever. It’s Pep who’s to blame for leaving him with no cover.

Defenders have to remain focused, and single minded, no matter who's around them .... if the ball is there to be won, and within their reach, THEY have to make it their priority to win it .... the great Italian defenders of yesteryear were practically impossible to pass, they made damn sure they got to the ball first, and they didn't particuarly care how they cleared the danger either!

Having said that you are absolutely right about the lack of cover from other defenders and midfielders in our team right now, they all have a job to do but when some players aren't doing that job it leaves others exposed, and it makes life a whole lot harder.

Covering and working for each other is so important to any teams success ... be that in a single match, or over the course of a season ...Alleyne would do well not to dwell on his performance tonight, and put the work in on the training ground to progress his overall game .... Bodo have plenty of pace, they are a lively team, and a real handful for a young defender to have to cope with.

To make things worse on this forum the advert on this thread is about funerals & cremations FFS.

Ask yourself a question Nunes or Walker / Tejani or KDB.
Ask yourself - which players are/were out there of that same quality
I still say that level of player isn't around currently.
It's great looking at other leagues/teams and saying "what a fantastic talent", then they get over here and it doesn't work because it's a different level physically.
In terms of physicality, technique and mentality I reckon we had well above average in 5 or 6 positions for the last 10 years
