Nunes is one of the best RBs in the league.
Nunes is a very average midfielder, who has done an average job at RB. I think our acceptance of second rate replacements is part of our problem. We just used try and attract the best around now we’re taking a punt on average players and hoping for the best. Ask yourself a question Nunes or Walker / Tejani or KDB. We have needed a CB and two FB’s and a box to box midfielder but have tried to make do O’reilly & Nunes are not defenders and will be found when it comes to the business end of the season.

Seen enough of Ait Nouri early on in the season and at AFCON to see he's nowhere near our level. Another recent waste of money, too many bang average players from bang average sides.

His passing and crossing is generally poor, his defensive awareness isn't all it should be .... he tries to get forward, but once he does he HAS to find a better final ball, or it's just all in vain.

Our transfer activity has been largely underwhelming and over the course of a season it shows.

Until we get serious in the market and bring in real quality that is up for the rigors of 4 competitions we will struggle and stutter.

We have the resources and shown in the past we can revamp the squad and be a force that is feared we just let it linger for too long and run the squad dry to its last gasp are now paying the price for that.

I never believed even if we had a fully fit squad they would be capable of making much progress in this competition and so it will pan out this season.

We lack guile , pace , strength, basic skills and above all fight and mental fortitude losing most 50/50's and it will get worse before it better but when you don't replace like for like or better still like for better its inevitable you will go backwards and that is where we are now.

Provided we get the right players in their right positions we will be back sooner than some will think but it will take another season or two for us to start getting more difficult to get any point off.

Today as has been the case on many occasions in the past 18 months we were a shambles was to easy to play against as soon as we lose possession.
Semenyo and Guehi ARE high quality talents. It doesn't matter, however, if they and a boatload of regular starters are injured and the manager has lost his way and0 now doesn't have a clue (hint: adjust your formation, if necessary, in order to not play such a high defensive line). I hope Pep is thrilled to continue on with a small squad. HIs fingerprints are all over our precipitous decline the last two seasons.

We just seem to have lost all intensity. Yes we're suffering with injuries, club world cup definitely having an impact with no pre-season, but we have been in steady decline since the treble. There was a sense in our celebration's we’d reached the peak. ‘We did it Kev’ etc etc.
Need to get our fucking hunger back.
We need pep to stop letting players like alvarez leave and then replacing a top class player with shit, and before people saying alvarez wanted to leave, ask yourself why, because a player of his quality doesn't want to warm a bench week in week out, how we could do with him now

There’s not going to be much rational debate tonight.

Just venting.

Dreadful, but we’re running on fumes at the moment. The balance isn’t right though.

Sack off the 3-1-6 and return to 3-2-5 and build from a solid base and stop the transitions.
Is that three at the back or five at the back? We’ve had holes as big as the Grand Canyon most of the season, three at the back with only two midfielders and we’ll keep conceding.

He can’t defend

Cancelo was never particularly good at defending but he was excellent going forward and was able to do the defensive basics most of the time. Ait Nouri can't defend at all and is nowhere near the same level of threat going forward.

Again, the drop in quality in this position is stark. Seems like a familiar theme throughout various positions from where we once were, not sure why.

Is it 6 goals disallowed against us aswell ?
Not sure of the relevance as VAR was always going to spot offsides.
The question is more could we have defended those attacks had the opposing players been sufficiently deep to be onside. If the answer is yes then the six goals are irrelevant, if it's no then we really are deep in the shit.

Our style of play has become stale, too predictable, uninspiring and worst of all ineffective. I really don’t know what the answer is; but I do know it’s not a left back at right midfield, a right back in central defensive midfield to help our captain and Reijnders, Foden & Cherki to run the game. Neither have any heart at the moment and it is worrisome.
We need Nico G back asap. For all his faults, Kovacic provides the drive and energy from midfield. We need him back urgently too, before this season peters out. We created hardly anything tonight, despite all the possession. Our width tonight was none existent, especially down the right. Again that line up was fucking bizarre, absolute bat shit!
