Bodo/Glimt (A) | CL | Post Match Thread

Let's have it right, if that had been the rags under whatever manager, the rags thread would be on a thousand pages by now and every post would be taking the piss.

That's how bad Bodo are and how much worse we were.

I still can't figure out why we don't get the EDS in training to play in a low block then get first team to figure out the best way to get Haaland involved and if we can't then find a method of attacking that results in an attempt on goal. We seem petrified of taking it into the penalty area and we don't want to cross it in thus accounting for our woeful ignorance of ever knowing if the opposition keeper is any good
Looking at the quality gap from EDS to first team squad... the EDS players couldnt keep tge ball on the pitch long enough to make pattens of play exercises worth while. The drop in standards since wilcox left is remarkable. Club needs a change ..what was guehi thinking?

Sadly all the work that was put into the team to create that style has been lost

We are a shell of that style
Play a team not playing the low / mid block like Arsenal there and the players we have now will still do that. The issue is, and it manifested regularly with Pep, is the loss of the ball and the transition with the high line we are destroyed. He is so stubborn, to the point of self destruction with his principles, that he rarely will adopted a more pragmatic approach, which is exactly what he should have done with the young inexperienced defence in the games since Chelsea get a draw if necessary but not these humiliating confidence sapping defeats Somehow it worked at Newcastle maybe that led him to believe we could get away with it

Just about thawing out from what I think was the coldest away end since Copenhagen in 2009!

Huge respect to all the other Blues who made it up here - and I hope that seeing the Northern Lights was at least some compensation for that utter shower of shit.

I thought Pep was crying when they came over at the end, but maybe not - but you have to give credit to Bodo for the performance - and, for me, the pitch, our injuries, the cold, coming off the derby defeat, etc....are excuses that simply do not justify our performance.

At the final whistle, even those that were visably angry, joined in with 'we love you City'...becuase we all know that however poor the past month has been, this is still the club we love.
I don't think he was crying. I was watching him on TV.

We should give more credit to Bodo. They did what they did very well. We started complacently just passing the ball aimlessly. Then the sky caved in, and we asked for it. The team that was available didn't have enough to get through. After 2-0 we did try. We needed wide players but they weren't available.

I hope the young players get a chance alongside a few experienced players to put this right.

Just having a glance at tomorrow’s games it’s very likely we are out of the top 8. Not looked at the final round of games but looking like we will need results to go our way even if we win. A draw wouldn’t have been a bad result tonight and would have meant a win avoids the play off, also means we are likely to be the bottom of the five English clubs. Just to cheer you up.

Noone gets sacked after 2 losses, second in the table, in a cup semi final, with the injury list we’ve got in what was initially considered to be a rebuild season.
Regardless of the issues you mention… a normal manager at a normal club, would be sacked after the last two appalling performances and results

Injuries are killing our season, just like the last one. No team can lose three of their first choice experienced back four and not suffer. Add to that our holding midfield player also being injured meaning a not ready Rodri has had to play more than he should. Having said that will we ever see the old Rodri again? I'm beginning to have my doubts.

They say you find out about your players in the bad times and sadly some are showing a worrying lack of bollocks. Pep and his coaches have to take a long hard look at themselves too. It's sheer arrogance and for me a dereliction of duty to keep on playing the same high line when the players he has available can't do it. Let's be brutally honest we are lucky we haven't conceded at least ten goals over the last two games. Both sides could have scored more. It's Pep's Achilles heel and if we're continuing to be brutally honest a coach with less kudos than Pep could have set the side up better than he has in the last two games. He's thrown the young defenders under the bus and lost two games we could and should have done better in.

The squad planning has also been terrible for a couple of seasons ( Our two recent additions aside ) We've still got no back up right back, our first choice left back is really a midfield player, same as our right back. We've also hung onto too.msny crocks who are hardly ever available for selection. I believe the club has said they don't expect anymore transfer activity this window but for me we could do with an exoerienced right back and center half. Old heads on the cheap to babysit the youngsters Andy Morrison style. We're a soft touch, only little Bernie shows any fight. We won't get a decent midfield player this window but that's desperately needed too. Foden can't continue to have six to ten good games a season and be totally anonymous for the others. Same with Haaland. He needs to work on his game, he can't amble about expecting the perfect pass to put him through because its rarely happening against a low block defence. Also for s big bloke hes often woeful in the air.

Our season is in big danger of quickly going down the pan unless we buck up. Newcastle will have watched our last two games and be totally confident of turning around their first leg loss. Even if we get through, anybody fancy us against Arsenal, or even Chelsea in the final? No me neither.

Yes we may turn it around but given the body language of the players recently im not sure we will.

And there was me hoping that Saturday past was the low point of this season. Although we failed to find the onion bag, at least we created a few chances tonight.

Full credit to Bodo / Glimt - they'll be dining out on this result for decades.

I’m starting to worry about the level of coaching and detail going into our training. Every time we concede possession it turns into a counter attack for the opposition it’s like we are playing 5v5 basketball. The midfield and defence are so disjointed especially the midfield there is too much fluidity the players are just running all over the place Rodri crossing over and going ahead of Rico Lewis and vice versa there is absolutely zero discipline in our press and our transitional game.
I kept saying to my old man tonight, the positioning of the players looks wrong, the patterns of play look wrong..it’s just a mess at the moment.

Injuries, fatigue, fixture pile up, no time to train/recover-but that doesn’t explain away just how poor it’s been of late.

The Rodri of old could manage the midfield on his own but it’s ridiculous expecting him to do that now.

Some of Peps tactics are baffling me.

Might be slightly heretical to some but Pep's record with us given the resources available to him has been piss pour
In big comps and big teams i agree.. we struggle constantly. Great v West Brom at home when the gulf in resources was massive. I do think the wool has been pulledvover the meejas eyes.. always said his record in big games is shit really

Pep isn't a normal manager and we're not a normal club. One of his coaches needs to have a word with him though.

Injuries, inexperience, low confidence and a bad attitude were more relevant. And bad luck. Sometimes everything that can go wrong does go wrong in a game. We invited the defeat on ourselves by not treating the game seriously. We played like Man Utd do with airs and graces and came a cropper and were too weak to put it right. Our title winning sides sometimes started games on the wrong foot but had enough quality to turn games around. This side was unbalanced. It was not Pep's fault.

That isn’t going to happen, Pep has his style, the way he was taught is the way he wants the game to be played and the only differences are usually a tweak or two. It’s not even a blame game or a fault of his, it’s just run its course at City.
Then I fear a frustrating run to the end of the season.

I had meant to say in The Champions League but it's been poor in recent Cup Finals also
