I think Nunes plays personally.

If Nunes has what I had — and I suspect he has, it's been knocking round Europe — then I can assure you, as never before — as never before in my life with an illness that is not life-threatening — I was smashed to pieces by it. For five solid weeks, I felt like utter shit. No energy whatsoever, sleeping fourteen to fifteen-hour nights, a cough that was so violent that at one point it either displaced a rib or pulled a muscle, making lying on my side trying to get to sleep an incredibly painful experience (I mean just moving my rib cage breathing was painful), all my sense of taste completely screwed up, the most repulsive gunk I've ever seen coming out of my throat, ok, I'll spare you all the symptoms, enough already… I say, if Matheus has that, he has my full sympathy.
Now I'm in my seventies, he's in his twenties, he's an elite athlete, I was never any kind of serious athlete, but I can tell you in the early stages of whatever that is, ’flu, could even be a form of Covid light (that's still doing the rounds), there is no way on God's earth that you could go out and play a game of professional football at the highest level.
Get well soon, mate. Save yourself for Galatasaray or beyond. Whatever it takes.

I don’t want to see anyone on the pitch who is not fully fit. We are currently not good enough to carry guys, and it also sends the wrong signal to those who are fit but are left out.

Come on. That's silly
You think Pep has been picking Foden to start over at times Cherki/ Marmoush/Doku or basically anyone else purely on his performances over the last few months. I give more credit to Pep than that.

I'd like to agree with you — there's nothing wrong with the principle — but in some cases there might not be a choice. Phillips, for example, is fully fit, but apparently simply not playable in defensive midfield.

I wonder if our team selection will be influenced by Wednesday’s match. All things being equal I would probably play Khusanov right back as we don’t have much by way of viable options, with Guehi and Ake as centre backs. Of course Guehi can’t play midweek so is Ake able to play Saturday and Wednesday? If not then Khusanov plays centre back. No idea who plays right back. Rodri should play as he’s getting Wednesday off and Nico isn’t fit.

Seems like a more difficult match tomorrow than it looked a few weeks ago. Our form has collapsed while they have found some and seem to have found a player in Mane.

After the last few matches there’s a desperate need for us to win tomorrow. Last season’s dreadful run is too fresh in the memory do we need to arrest the slide tomorrow. Any sort of win will do. Would be nice to see Haaland end his drought. More than normal we need to turn up. Last two performances were horrendous.

We are better than wolves but need to show it.

I think we can discard him from any sensible discussion.
We currently have guys that are not fit enough to play ninety minutes, and guys that are incapable of playing two games in 5 days. Shoehorning them into the starting eleven, just for their ‘experience’, is not actually helping matters; others on the pitch have to adapt their game to compensate, while others sit on the bench and miss out on valuable playing time.

In theory you could play Semenyo at right back for one game lol. Has played wing back before I think.

Donna
Semenyo Khusa Guehi Ait Nouri
Rodri O Reilly Reijnders
Cherki Haaland Doku/Foden

Stop! Lol. This is the pregame thread. Lets not rehash Anti-Pepism here... There is a thread for that.

I’m sure he’s like the 3rd ref we’ve had this season whose debut premier league game happens to be against us. Fresh off the red cartels conveyor belt of twats
I think the last guy we had that was new was good? Didnt have the bias ingrained in him yet

Very worrying about Nunes. Surely a professional athlete wouldnt be wiped out for a over a week with the flu.
I don't think he'd be any different to the vast majority of us who are lucky enough not to have any underlying health conditions when it comess to how we are affected.
The fact that he is a professional athlete would surely indicate that his return would be slightly delayed. He isn't being asked to struggle into work and sit at a desk for the day with a box of tissues and a few lemsips. He needs to be 110% to run about a pitch after fellow professional athletes.
