Elliot Anderson | Opening bid rejected (p189)

Next summer Stones, Bernardo and Ortega will be out of contract. Ake and Kovacic will have one year left. Trafford will likely leave. We will try to move Grealish permanently and Akanji has a £15m option with Inter. Savinho may also leave.

If Trafford goes we’ll need a new keeper, we know we need a right back and we’re obviously targeting Anderson. Moving the above players on will free up a lot of space in terms of wages and should mean a reasonable net spend in the summer.

The big unknown is what do we do if Rodri doesn’t sign an extension…

Regarding Rodri if he doesn’t sign is sell him or let his contract run down let him go on a free at 31..

I think they'll accept 80mil pounds.
I hope that you're correct, but unless he forces thier hand / there is a clause for relegation or no European football...they would be crazy to do so.

England regular at 23 years old.
Bidding starts at 100mil if I were them in today's insane transfer market / English tax world.

Harsh but true. before we anything daft it would/ I would like to see Rodders in the team with NG both sitting and protecting our back 4 just a thought :-)
This is one of the most annoying things about Pep. So we've got shitloads of injuries at the back so we have to play three younger players, including one who was playing at Watford a couple of weeks ago. It can't be helped, and we expect to see a dip in form as a result. But he flat out refuses to change the midfield to offer them a bit of extra protection.

Against Bodo, he had Gonzalez, Kovacic and Bernardo missing.
Though I would have preferred Nico O partnering Rodri, we were limited.

Absolutely, when he returns from injury.
Gonz and Rodri behind Cherki/Foden, Semenyo, and Doku would be very strong, IMO, but those in front also need to press more aggressively too.

I think he’s looks like a really good player with a lot of potential, but it does feel like some posters are pining their hopes on him fixing the midfield.

Thinking of the the negatives of this signing, for me it would be he’s playing for a poor side, he doesn’t have experience at the top level and he’s not won anything before. Obviously that can change and we have signed players like this before - with lots of potential, but have we signed too many like this?

It doesn’t seem possible anymore, but do we need some genuine proven top class midfielders.

After getting duped for a 100 million for Jack Grealish (imho), I would be very careful at spending 100 million at another player. As much I hate them the only 100 million player worth the money was Declan Rice. And a good couple of matches at the world cup best believe Forest owner will start asking 100 for Anderson as well.

If we have 100 million lying around I would expect scouts to find a generational midfielder someplace else. What about Neves at PSG, I mean if we gonna spend 100 let it be for him or some generation La Masia graduate for Barcelona. Anderson should be the Semeneyo price. 65-70 take it or leave it!

That's a fair point, a little more project than world class fit perhaps, not sure we should keep doing the project route, we've got a young team that will grow and need a finished product.

But don't ask me who that is. Think we missed out with Rice and I know it's not that straightforward but the monies we could end up spending eventually getting someone in that's right could be a crazy cumulative total.
