I think the injury he had when we bought him genuinely fucked him. He's literally never had a good game since, for us or on various loan deals. He might not have been Zidane before that, but he was a decent player and performed well in a specific role for England. I think his shoulder is fucked

Phillips is possibly the worse player I have ever seen at City and that includes our brief stay in the third tier. People keep saying he is a nice person but he comes across as a total moron in his rare interviews. Like many I thought he could do a job for us as a squad player. But, almost from his first heavy touch, he showed that he has absolutely no technical skills. He looked ok for England but remember that most international games are against pub teams. International football these days is sub-standard.

Or rather he's the classic example of a player landing his big payday and then totally going to shit, because he has nothing left to play for.

A shoulder injury now years ago is a weak excuse and shouldn't affect your hunger, drive, fight. He has none of it - none. He got his windfall and is continuing to receive it. We're paying the consequences of awful decision making, committing too much money for too long to a player who wasn't thoroughly tested at the highest levels. It happens unfortunately, live and learn.
