Very happy to have qualified and avoid the playoffs . I was concerned with the DM position but Bernardo and NOR put in a shift and we had the middle of the park sewn up . Liked the combinations between Kus and Nunez on the right defence and Doku causing chaos inside . Felt the ref could have protected him more though . Good to see Leroy and Mr Whippy again but neither showed much .

Weird after the final whistle waiting for the result from Portugal but laughed my head off when I saw two red cards and that late goal so smiling all the way home .

Those Gala fans on SS3 were barmy . It was like being back in the Kippax with the call and response singing . Looking across from my seat at times it looked like Dante's Inferno ...Made a mockery of our club with it's security checks though my son gets grief game after game with his club sanctioned medical bag despite having all the right paperwork ......heck . they had more flares and fireworks than a public bonfire night display . Thank goodness there was no drum .
 
Rewatched the game and have to say the chances we had that second half we should scored at least 3 more goals! With making the wrong decisions to not hitting the target is why! Pep did say it was Man City’s youngest side in champs league for ten years so that’s what you see in the second half! They will gain so much experience this season..

Agree with your assessment of the second half.

There are 12-year-olds playing in parks who understand who's in the best position to be given the ball.

Everybody in the team last night grew up playing football, knowing this same thing.

So at what point between being a kid in the park and becoming a pro did some of our players forget this, then? And why just our players?

Experience? Honestly!

Still - straight through, that's all that counts, for now. Improvement definitely required, though.
 
What is the point of finishing in the top 8 if you can only play 2 or 3 selected teams in the knockouts
The knockout should be an open draw with 16 teams in the hat and the luck of the draw.

Anyway, good result last night, now we can sort out the squad with the new signings available to play from now on
I will say City have the best 11 starting lineup when fully fit and can beat anybody

Also, a quick shout-out to Aït-Nouri's best game in a city shirt

It does.
If you assume that the teams 1 to 16 are the best, then in the last sixteen teams 7/8 play 9/10.m which is us in this case.
1/2 play15/16
2/4 play 13/14
5/6 play 11/12.

The only difference is the play off stage which adds a bit of jeopardy where 9/10 play 23/24 and so on.

This format is harder. We made it more difficult by fielding a weakened team and then we got hit by injuries at Bodo / Glimt. We conceded a last minute pen. at Monaco. It was amazing that we qualified automatically. With Semenyo and Guehi signing, I think we will be one of the favourites to win it now. Bayern are my favourite. Musiala is back.

As an armchair fan last night i had no idea wtf was going on re qualifying. Tuned into Befica for last 10 minutes, just in time to see the goalie bang in the 4th.
 
In the second half I was getting angrier than at any other time in the season. Two or three more goals were there for the taking which would have ensured a top eight spot and nobody seemed that bothered. Leaving us hanging on for Jose’s Benfica to do us a favour could do easily have been avoided. But I guess the keeper scoring wouldn’t have been so much fun so I’ll let them off just this once

I get your point about not playing everybody but its not a draw I the sense of the FA cup but it is similar to the World Cup, Club World Cup, tennis tournaments etc. In that you have a defined path to the final

Shite 2nd half. We used to hammer teams like that.

Impressive first half, fuck knows what we were playing in the 2nd half!

Few players really under performed in the 2nd half which was sad, and none of them were players who started!

In terms of the crowd, shameful on so many not going, truly embarassing that last night. If they didn't go for safety reasons, fair enough, but 100% bullshit as no doubt those who missed the game but were happy to be in istanbul for hte final other year!

To the club, I really hope someone takes you to court over the safety of the fans, that last night was a shit show.

Thankfully there was no mass brawls, but we did get challenged to a fight by a group of turkish males near the bus stop facing asda.
