Chelsea have just done it with Sterling, cant we do same with Philip's? Try negotiate a settlement and terminate contract
Chelsea had to pay Sterling £20m for him to leave though.
The fact we haven’t settled with Phillips yet would suggest his agent is playing hard ball on the money he’s owed across the rest of his contract.
There is literally no incentive whatsoever for City in paying up the full value of his contract for him to leave - we don’t have to play him, and we don’t have to include him on any of our squad lists. We owe him the money anyway, so it doesn’t really matter how we pay it to him.
As long as he’s not a disruptive influence in the squad (which, to be fair, I can’t imagine he would be), then it’s on him if he wants to settle at a reduced figure so he can try and get his career back on track.
Otherwise he’ll turn up to training for the next two and a half years, collect his wages, and reconcile with the fact his career is pretty much finished.
And he’ll retire very rich man, which I’m sure will go some way to consoling him that he torpedoed his career at City.
I know we as fans want him off the books, but there’s no benefit to the Club in doing this if he isn’t prepared to negotiate.
