Nice one. You are braver than I am.Ha ha ! Conditions were foul but warmer than usual so once I'd tied down my brolly, I was quite snug. Fished a swim near the car and had my stove in the car so could make a hot drink.
I always have this theory that, if you venture out when no one else will, the Gods of fishing will reward you (with the added bonus that there is no one else there). I'm just waiting for the school traffic to clear and then I'm off again today. The river is high but dropping.
On a separate note, off to Rutland on 6 April.

I've had a lot more than that but can't get a big one. It's the only PB that I can't seem to get into respectable territory. Unbelievably I helped two kids on their first trip unhook a mid 20 on the next peg in the Autumn. I've fished the same rez about 50 times.Nice fish Dave. Clearly you have been a busy boy!
It will come for sure. I curse pike because I catch them when fishing for trout. Never caught anything over 20lb but I have had a couple of mid teens. One on Pitsford was around 18lb, the other more memorable was on Menteith during a match. I had fished poorly and was blank while my boat partner had a couple. I hooked this thing and I knew immediately it was either a big brownie or a bloody pike. I was praying to every god that it was the former but after a fight of around 10 minutes finally I saw the mottled green sides of a slab. It was around the same weight as the Pitsford fish and the stupid thing had taken a size 14 buzzer of all things. Thankfully I caught the worlds smallest rainbow just after that so at least the blank was off.I've had a lot more than that but can't get a big one. Haha. Ironically I've had 3-4 massive wild brown trout whilst pike fishing. The biggest one was the fastest fish I've ever hooked. Nearly took the rod out of my hand (and all on film too). I once fished Budworth for 3 consecutive days without a bite, only for a friend who had just taken up fishing to pitch up and get 3 bream.
I sometimes think it's because beginners will do something, or present a bait in such a way that no experienced angler would do it and the fish think "WTF, I'll have some of that!"
Anyway, keep going, it will come.

I’ve had some Northern Pike that was pretty good but they were out of a huge very cold lakeRecipe for Pike:
Strap the pike to a slim wooden board
Marinade overnight in a weak saline solution with added herbs including oregano, parsley and thyme and crushed hawberries.
Slow cook over charcoal and baste with white wine and butter.
When internal temp reaches 57 degrees c, take off bbq and cover with foil and some tea towels and rest for at least 30 minutes
Cut the straps, put the pike in the bin and eat the wooden board.
