The Squad planning thread

You think we need, and are getting, 6 players? What exactly are you going to do with this huge squad and where is the money coming from? Which teams are buying our mass clearance? Delusional.

We have just signed a Palace player and a Bournemouth player are they “shit” clubs too?
It's not too far fetched is it? Going off the latest rumour mill, it's very likely that we're going to be getting a new manager so they'll want to bring some of their own players in.

Even without a new manager coming in, I'm fairly certain that Akanji, Stones, Ake, Silva, Grealish & Kovacic are going to leave. Then there's question marks around players like Marmoush, Savinho & Lewis, so that's a minimum of 6 players potentially leaving who will need replacing.

We have Bah & Reis out on loan but are they good enough to be in the squad for next season, I've not seen enough to form an opinion.

Even without players leaving, we do need an actual right back despite Nunes having a decent season, we need a left back and we need at least two top quality midfielders (there's an argument we need a third depending on Rodri's form/fitness/contract situation).

I don't think that's delusional

Still don't know if our wingers will be good enough, so that might be another one, because it seems that none of our academy wingers are getting a chance here.

I do. We currently have 27 players in our first team squad and then there are those out on loan we are still paying for. It’s not a case of six out six in. It’s more like 6 out 1 or 2 in.

For a real World take I would recommend:

I think we were keeping options open in case another team came in with a firm bid for Marmoush. That hasn’t happened so it is very much see what develops in the next few months.

Joaquin Panichelli

There is I a whiff of future World Class to his play style.

I don’t think we need a left back.

I don’t think we need more than 2 midfielders

Currently I would agree, but come the end of the season, things might be different.

Unless things click between and within attack and midfield, and the numerical advantages we so often enjoy turn into actual chances that are taken, we may need someone else.
Maybe Kovacic will return and knit it together but I doubt it. We have a lot of still fairly inexperienced players, even guys 26 and younger, and they all generally lack composure. I know it's impossible, but we'd probably benefit from someone like Kane; someone older who has played in the League and has the ability to drop between midfield and attack and tie things together. We went back for Gundogan because Foden, Doku, and Haaland were having the same difficulties, but his legs had gone and he ended up dropping back to cover Rodri's absence.
The difficulties still remain, however, so unless we see an improvement in the coming months, then we might need to look for something different.

27 players in our squad, 3 of which are goalkeepers which means we have a 24 man squad of outfield players. In my opinion, a minimum of 6 could leave in the summer which means we could be down to 18 outfield players.

And you send direct me to our equivalent of Mark Goldbridge for their "real world view". Good luck to the lad and his content but do me a favour.

Well respected actually.

I’ll see you back here at the end of the next window. We will see whether 1 or 6 is nearer the truth.

Another left-back would allow us to play Nico O in midfield.

I'm sure it's great, but Jesus Christ, that's a feature length movie.

In the 'real World' we currently have no real idea if certain players such as Rodri, Trafford and Bernardo will return next season, so this entire exchange strikes me as mere speculation dressed up as pedantic blather.

I thought that was the entire point of this thread and sub-forum. Crestfallen…
