Our biggest problem in a nutshell. That and a non-existent press is the clog in our potential. As scouting reports told us and as we've seen, very good when he has clear space ahead of him. Seems to be like most players we sign nowadays. Unfortunately, we rarely play with clear space ahead of us due to our lethargic build up.
Well, it worked in this game, but i think it's more of a mentality shift than just a formation one.For what it’s worth (and it may not be much as I still am trying to work him out), but I could see him excel in a similar role to that of Bellingham in his first season at Madrid if ever needed, or even firmino during his time at the dippers.
It would remove the majority of his defensive responsibility and we have the “wide” players to contribute with goals
Marmoush - Reijnders - Semenyo
Mane - Firmino - Salah
Obviously not going to be preferred lineup as we have Haaland as focal point, but could be an interesting option.
Just thinking out loud, please don’t come for me haha
Yes, I know we’re not in the best of form and some of our football is dire at times currently, but I’m excited to see how the squad and the way we play progressesWell, it worked in this game, but i think it's more of a mentality shift than just a formation one.
Haaland himself likes this football. Early attack before the defense settles and attackers running onto the ball against retreating defenders. This is practically how all out forwards prefer to play. Yet we have been deploying a slow possession based offense.

Unfortunately the stats dont tell the bigger picture....If he "gets it" with Pep next season he'll soar imo.
14 G/A in 36 games is pretty solid considering he's been played all over the midfield and has taken time to settle in.
We need midfielders that we can rely on to get 10 goals and 10 assists across a season. Reijnders is one.
I understand the control pep wants and why we build slow. My point is we are buying players whose skillset is not for that type of football. Reijnders isn’t good at that. Hes a runner. Bernardo is excellent. David Silva was sublime. Cherki can do it.The build-up is 'lethargic' by design. We don't want direct football as that decreases our control on the game.
That would be a problem if we hadn't the best attack in the league in terms of GF. Our weakness is not the lethargic build-up, but that we forget how to use it to control games. Pep has commented on that many times, including after Spurs. We aren't good at playing direct football. And that's by design because the patient build up wins you leagues, as Pep knows better than anyone else.
It's funny that people complain about our build-up given we score more goals than any PL team.

That run t'other night into the NUFC area was a mirror of the Cruyff run into the German area WC '74 that resulted in a Dutch pen - the only thing the Wolverhampton butcher got right that day!Cruyff?? Ffs
DislikeUnfortunately the stats dont tell the bigger picture....
for 99% of the game where he isnt achieving those stats he is a liability ...we are wide open even more so when he plays. he cant or wont defend and that doesnt work. He is a complete passanger unless he is putting the ball in the net and you cant afford to have him in the team against any quality oposition and Newcastle utd last night were not quality oposition in the first half...
as soon as they started to play he did his usual ghost act and disappeared..
Id sell him back to italy tomorrow and hopefully he will get home sick or something like that and return there in the summer....
Based on one performance or what? He’s glaringly absent for large periods of games when our midfielders are supposed to be much more involved.
He is not from Italy originally :) Soooooo... If he is homesick, im guessing we are selling to PSV?Unfortunately the stats dont tell the bigger picture....

His possession game is actually decent. Its just not what showcase's his best attributes...You may be right about Reijnders but it's a bit early to tell. He might improve in possession next season. Many players have problems to get Pep's football in their first season.
Gonzalez and Cherki are good for Pep's system, Guehi as well. RAN is potentially a good option as he's very good on the ball.
Some of our problems come from injuries or new players struggling in their first season.
That's rightGood ball carrier - particularly on the counter.
Good finisher in general.
Unselfish player.
Those are thing that can be worked with.
The main criticism of Reijnders is that when he doesn't score, he doesn't actually contribute that much,. either with or without the ball.
The main criticism of City is that we've got another 2-3 players who would fit the same description.

Yep, he is ok but 27 and will hardly improve much.Jordi Cruyff maybe
