Expect a loss today as it’s anfield and playing against the crowd ref and VAR.
My only hope is we picked up a decent win in Madrid when we couldn’t previously with better sides,( although Madrid aren’t as good as then either) ..So maybe Sod’s Law will apply and with a weaker team we get a win ..

Yeah, Anfield probably isn’t the place to be experimenting with formations/line-ups (as we’ve found out in the past!).

Still remember when Mancini finished a game with no midfield and about 5 strikers on the pitch, absolute mess.

Dread this fixture above all else.

Would be nice if Haaland remembered he's a world class CF for this. Honestly not really arsed which way this goes because, predictably, we'll roll onto our backs and have our tummies tickled.

Your first sentence pretty much covers it. Even with a good team we have struggled to overcome the forces arrayed against us. Like you, my glimmer is the Madrid win, however, even though we are still persona non grata in Europe, they have slightly relaxed their agenda, whereas our domestic enemies have stepped it up.

Our biggest danger - anything in our favour forensically examined until they find something, anything the dippers do goes unmentioned by var and the commentators. Thats the uneven reality of modern football I’m afraid. As Pep says anything we’ve done we’ve done ourselves, and at anfield it has to be a little bit more

A win would be a surprise. No point saying otherwise. The dips see this fixture like spurs. We just can’t handle the press and atmosphere. The dip teams in the past had so much anger towards us I could understand at times their feral behaviour.

This is football tho and results go against the grain. Expect a tight first half, second half we will be chasing them then hanging on.

Or we could win. Plenty of goal in the team if we counter.

Can we adjust when they adjust? That’s the turning point in most games for us atm.

2-2 -:)

Most hated game of the season.
There'll be one or two jaw-dropping VAR decisions, and probably a beating, deserved or not, but then it's over and we get back to 'normal' fixtures, (after Rags-Spurs-Liverpool away), and plenty of Cup football to look forward to.
Top 3, CL knock-outs, and a cup run is 'par' for a top club.. financially and otherwise. Par is sometimes fine.
Can't win it every year.

interesting game and an indication of where we are as a team. Spurs and Derby are different assignments as one is derby and another is our boggy team.

Taking into account the notion it takes one year to get use to the system - the new signings have got some time to adjust to the system. ESP the Jan 2025 ones. We are also in the stage where we begin to show our best - not that it has happened in the last few years.

If we show some spine despite VAR, despite it being Anfield- we may still have some say in the league race. Lose with high margin or have a second half collapse- this season is Dunzo. I can’t live in the delusion that we can perform in a CL final against PSG when we are giving this Spurs two goals in the second half.

If rodri and nico dont start together then id sub rodri off at half time or just after. His legs go around 60 minute mark every game and we need to be on top of things today. High intensity for 90 minutes. Cherki too may have to come off sooner as his legs fade quicker too

I wouldn’t play Rodri at all in games like this this yet. Fulham and Salford are more likely to help him get up to speed if he ever can. The two Nico’s in midfield would offer better protection and ability to get up and down the pitch
