Fulham (H) | PL | Post Match Thread

The non-foul on Marmoush, which then led to both Gonzalez and Pep getting booked was fucking maddening.

It was a foul all day on Omar and Tierney let it go. Tete got away with niggling fouls all evening.

Should the hair pull have been a red. Well, it was a couple of week ago when Michael Keane did it. Although, Foden probably could have seen red for his awful challenge.

Maybe the second half was about conserving energy, and not trying convinced that's what we're doing. You can see Pep is frustrated with it. We just end up continually losing the ball and repeatedly flooding back towards our own goal (Guehi was brilliant last night during the 2nd half chaos). It all looks a bit desperate and disjointed - and next to no control. Both Pep and Bernardo have spoken about this continual second half lethargy, so there must be more to it than just conserving energy.

Marvellous first half, and hope Erl is ok and gets a bit of a breather. Phil looked brighter during the first 45 too. O'Reilly is a star. The back four (whichever combination it is) and Donna have a real togetherness and desire to repel everything. You can see what it means to them.

John Boy’s back!! John Boy’s back.
Oh no…what’s he done to his back now?
Thought he was just getting over a thigh problem?!

;-)

He’s going to struggle to get quality game time now, especially with Pep knowing he’s leaving and also trying to get minutes in Khusanov!

Expect him to start against Salford, possibly with Khusanov.

Funny no one in the press conference mentioned the Semyno hair pull!?

Pep feels when Silva not playing we don’t control the game! Seems he is looking for that player still think why he dropped Foden back in midfield trying Cherki too! He says we have to play differently when he isn’t in the team!?

I wonder, if in some way that Club WC last summer is having an impact on second half energy levels. Normal pre season = not competitive, like to win, nothing rests on it. But that was a proper competition in hot/ wet conditions, took far too long, still annoyed Chavs won it ( predicted they would at start of comp) and its a delayed reaction. Dunno. Maybe I'll clutching at Jota ( RIP) type excuse but there's got to be some reason behind it.

Summer is meant to be rest and recharge for players, but it was seriously curtailed for our guys. It impacts, not always immediately. Even Chavs are inconsistent.

The hair pull
Retrospective ban

Didn't think the second half was as bad as recent weeks or as some are making out here. I thought the lads did a really good job of containing the bit of fight Fulham did and then just taking the edge out of the game. It's admittedly not thrilling to watch but never felt like they were hanging on. Much closer to treble winning City than the City that played Fulham earlier in the season.

Were you there ?
I was and I'm cry arsing. A better team than Fulham would have had our arses in the second half. It was shit to watch. Again.
I'm now stuck on a bus in traffic, are you safe at home with a beer ?
I wasn't there tonight. I'm on my 8th day of grafting in Frankfurt, thanks for asking.

My point is we preserved players and energy all whilst closing the gap to 3 points with another win. There have been loads of seasons and loads of run ins where we've just gotten the job done.

Suppose only people that got a bus to and from the game are correct in their assertions though.

There's a hole in the roof above the seat next to me in the South stand and it was continually dripping all night. Kept blowing over to me. I had my big City Pellegrini type coat on but still got soaked. Tourist sat in Dave's seat next to me was more impractically dressed with no big coat and was soaked even before enduring the walk from the ground. I'm still glad I went, 3 good goals at our end. All the new players are adding to the performance. Until he joined us I had no idea how good Guehi was.
