Fulham (H) | PL | Post Match Thread

Didn't think the second half was as bad as recent weeks or as some are making out here. I thought the lads did a really good job of containing the bit of fight Fulham did and then just taking the edge out of the game. It's admittedly not thrilling to watch but never felt like they were hanging on. Much closer to treble winning City than the City that played Fulham earlier in the season.
Agree. Having watched a couple of the games on Tuesday night I'd say we are levels above most teams around us in the PL . West Ham / Rags gave us a masterclass in pub football, embarrassing dross . Fulham play a bright and lively game and nearly pulled back to a draw in the second half at Craven Cottage .

The main problem last night was Rodri getting tired but our back line held firm and we could bring Gonzales on . At Craven Cottage we had to put John Stones in at DM ....for the first time this season I felt we had a strong bench in all areas and a defence that is beginning to gel .

There's a hole in the roof above the seat next to me in the South stand and it was continually dripping all night. Kept blowing over to me. I had my big City Pellegrini type coat on but still got soaked. Tourist sat in Dave's seat next to me was more impractically dressed with no big coat and was soaked even before enduring the walk from the ground. I'm still glad I went, 3 good goals at our end. All the new players are adding to the performance. Until he joined us I had no idea how good Guehi was.
Poor you . Hope you've dried out.. And I was looking over at East Stand at the drenching people were getting in Level 1 thinking SS3 was watertight. Still drowned on the walk back to the car though ...

Hopefully not as big leak as the one at the swamp…

First half blitz, second half bits. Clean sheet and good use of subs—thank you Pep 2 who seems to have influenced Pep to think more about subs. Our two new boys Guehi and Semenyo fitting in nicely. Team developing.
No complaints.

I wasn't there tonight. I'm on my 8th day of grafting in Frankfurt, thanks for asking.

My point is we preserved players and energy all whilst closing the gap to 3 points with another win. There have been loads of seasons and loads of run ins where we've just gotten the job done.

Suppose only people that got a bus to and from the game are correct in their assertions though.
Many times in the past Pep had the team controlling a game in the 2nd half. Usually the opposition were running after shadows as we conserved energy.
That did not happen today. We were far to casual, often asleep as passes went astray. Fulham had several chances to score and only excellent defending stopped them, that is not conserving energy. That is not controlling the game.
And yes when we did have the ball I was bored. It was lifeless. So yes, if you want to use the phrase cry arsing I'm doing it.
We have 3 threads that constantly mention lack of atmosphere, fans leaving early and empty seats. Last night answered all questions as to why.
To repeat, that was not a team in control of a game looking to conserve energy.

Match of the day fire mentioning the Foden foul and it should have been a red yep it’s close to a red if he got one wouldn’t have argued! Guess what no mention of the Semyno hair being pulled this is where pep should have mentioned it because will any of the media mentioned it? Doubt it! So the narrative will be Man City got away with it again they should have been down to ten men! Sometimes we should put out a narrative!

I wonder, if in some way that Club WC last summer is having an impact on second half energy levels. Normal pre season = not competitive, like to win, nothing rests on it. But that was a proper competition in hot/ wet conditions, took far too long, still annoyed Chavs won it ( predicted they would at start of comp) and its a delayed reaction. Dunno. Maybe I'll clutching at Jota ( RIP) type excuse but there's got to be some reason behind it.

Summer is meant to be rest and recharge for players, but it was seriously curtailed for our guys. It impacts, not always immediately. Even Chavs are inconsistent.
Of course it's having an effect and it's drum I've been banging for ages regarding the lack of rest over the recent summer breaks.
Summer 2021 - Shortened due to Euro 2020 being delayed until after covid.
Summer 2022 - Shortened because the fuckwits at FIFA decided to have a mid-season World Cup.
Summer 2023 - See above, at least one of the Fs in FIFA stands for fuckwit. Still unsure? Istanbul was 10th June, two weeks after the usual date for the final, which is last weekend in May.
Summer 2024 - Euros
Summer 2025 - Club World Cup.
Players and coaches need proper breaks in the summer, not a few days off. serious thought needs to be given to reducing the number of teams that qualify for international tournaments and European club tournaments, but there's too much money being made from broadcasters.

Agree about Rodri. He was great for 60 minutes and then faded. But he is improving with every match. I think Pep left him on to keep pushing his fitness up. Rodri and Nico O’Reilly looks like a great combo so far.

I'm up in SSL3 with the odd drip here and there ( rain, not fans) and could see some quite hefty leaks in a few places. Needs attention now that roof. Anyway, good 1st half, so so 2nd half. Happy with that.

Got a point and factor in the 4 comps we're in, maybe. Just seems weird it's just started to happen, maybe a mental issue throughout the team, just need to break the habit....

Playing some breathtaking football again. Guehi is a complete CB prototype, Bernardo is at the peak of his powers, O'Reilly is our most exciting youth product since Foden; so much talent on show. If we win every game between now and the end of the season, we'll win the league. This squad and our manager are capable of putting such a run together. Let's see what happens.

I thought we played really well first half and had the game killed off before half time. Second half was a bit of a non event, but wasn't the same kind off drop off as the recent games IMO. We managed to rest a few players and kept a clean sheet. I'd happily take that every game until the end of the season. I think there looks like a bit of added belief around the team after Sunday.

It was a bit weird in the ground last night, I had to double take, at first I thought I had sat in the wrong place, as I didn't recognise half the people sat around me, quite a few must have sold their tickets on. There were loads who didn't bother going also, with pockets of empty seats all over. Fulham only literally brought two coaches and probably had the least away fans for a PL game I've seen for ages.

I think things are starting to click a bit more. I think we are still in the race, but whatever happens this season, I feel blessed to get to watch this team and manager. Even on a shitty wet night.

Key words: ‘Momentum’ and ‘Belief’ …..something I was lacking a couple weeks ago.

And now I can sense these words are tub thumping around the players’ changing room and the fans have started to notice.

SS3 water was coming in everywhere. Everyone was already soaked though. Stadium filled up after about 15 minutes. I'm glad nobody missed the goals.
