VAR Discussion Thread

Can imagine one day maybe watching on Sky VR and being able to switch between a view on the halfway line or behind either goal but thats still probably 5 years away at least.
I'm going to bet you can do it now on the Meta Quest 3 (the Apple Headset is ridiculous) - I know you can run Now.TV in a browser so that bits possible already, its whether you need a dedicated app (which would have to be android and sideloaded) to achieve it

So it works with no Sky App! A crappy example with a little bit of CIty v Fulham side by side with Liverpool v City, both games this last week - YouTube spotted the Copyright Infringement IMMEDIATELY (bastards) so had to shove it on my own web space

NOW TV on Meta Quest 3

How can it be manipulated? Either VAR finds a definitive offside or wrong decision in 30 seconds or if it can't then the on field decision stands. E.g it took longer than 30 seconds to fabricate the evidence allowing the Guimares goal versus us znd also to disallow the Semenyo goal for us.
Of course, a great thing would be to hear the comms
How can VAR be manipulated?

With any subjective decision, it's in the question. "How can we justify ruling this out?" is a very different question than "How can we justify giving this?".

Yup. In RU the questions are predetermined based on the situation. So the ref will say, for example: “The on field decision is a try, is there any reason I should disallow it?” I.e. not “Was it a try?” Thus they are not re-reffing the try, just checking a point. VAR constantly re-refs goals.

But with a 30 second VAR decision making rule, any poor on field decision by the ref could be compounded by VAR who could then simply let 30 seconds tick by and the crappy on-field decision remains.

IMO keep VAR because it would be so difficult to put the genie back in the bottle. However, only use it for challenges to an on field decision (a maximum of 2 per game - and you don’t lose the challenge if successful). All VAR discussions must be audible to the crowd and the clock must be stopped for the process. A decision to invoke a challenge can only be made within a given time (10 seconds after the disputed incident happened to stop the forensics investigation of the incidents on iPads by management teams).

Keep VAR to a minimum, get rid of the obvious crazy mistakes and accept some of the more reasonable ones, such as toenail offsides or dubious fouls in the build up to a goal.

Enforce the rules we already have to stop the wrestling at corners and upgrade diving offences to a red card.

This would surely be better than what we currently have?

The problem with VAR is that it can look like it's obviously bent with some of the strange decisions considering they have all the time in the world to make those decisions.

The worrying thing is the people who run the game couldn't seem to care less what we or anyone else thinks and they'll do what they want anyway.

Can’t believe that ‘push’ on Gabriel. Especially when Ekitike got away with the same thing at Spurs on Romero earlier in the season. One a lot worse too.

Kolo Muani has touched his back - not pushed - and Gabriel has gone down like a sack of shit.

Really, really weak refereeing and even weaker VAR officiating.

That's because pre VAR refs were trained to be the authority in the pitch. They had to know their stuff. They had to be alert for every single moment.

Now they are trained on VAR use and integration with VAR instead of being the authority on the pitch. They have the safety net of VAR.

We can all see the refereeing standards have declined since VAR.

Van Dijk certainly looked offside.

Spurs goal should have stood on the basis that Yoro and Ekitike goals were allowed to stand earlier in the season

See this all too often these days. Defender gets caught under ball and feels the slightest touch and goes down hoping VAR gives the foul.

Right up there with defenders feigning head knocks to stop games when under pressure.

Good thing is, a lot of clips are now going around of Gabriel doing this sort of thing. There's another one at Leeds where Gabriel dives and Bamford scores and it gets ruled out. Referee's will start to remember he's got form for this.

Didn't know where else to put this.
Player must stay off the pitch for at least a minute if the trainers come on.

All good stuff but when a player goes down holding his head will that player still have to go off for a minute? Maybe it should be 5 mins then it might stop payers faking it!

Head injuries should be an immediate substitution with the player playing no further part in the game, like Pep did with Kush at Anfield. If all subs are used you get a dispensation and can even in extreme circumstances return a player who has already been subbed. These fake head injuries are ruining the game, especially as the trainer is generally not required I.e. most are fake.
