The Labour Government

Wasn't it always so, the Civil Service was riddled with idiots getting a tick in a box & gold star before moving on leaving a shite system behind, I'm sure the railways are exactly the same.
That's an odd extrapolation from the civil service to the railways. A completely different culture.

Erm except it isnt. The problem is too much trust in management consultants who come up with harebrained schemes and processes, whilst the senior management nod without understanding the implications.

It happens in the pretty much all of the public sector. Promises of making it better with more efficiency, whilst in reality they are selling magic beans and the senior management are daft enough to accept their recommendations.

How do I know this, well part of the business I work for are management consultants, they are about as trustworthy as a used kebab salesman.

NHS loves a management consultant. Especially ones with links to the software/company they recommend.

The trust I work for had a contractor as Head of IT. He lived in Scotland and visited site less than a handful of times in the 3 years he was employed. You don't even want to know the day rate he was on.

Makes a load of changes, brings a load of new software in, moves on.... New person comes in, doesn't like what the previous guy did....Makes a load of changes, brings a load of new software in, moves on....

Rinse... Repeat....

An example of this on the railways? Since the Serpell report, obviously.

Some more good news:

Meanwhile, the Office for National Statistics (ONS) reported that the UK recorded its largest ever budget surplus.
British retail sales rose by 1.8% month-on-month in January, the ONS said, outstripping forecasts of a 0.2% rise.

CGT overshot estimates significantly so doesn’t feel to me to be structural (it might be, too early to tell) but with borrowing for 10 of 12 down perhaps the numbers are pointing to a better outlook. It is a good numbers day for Reeves - she has waited a long time for one, let’s hope it continues.

Green shoots and all that.

In general Labour seem to be doing a much better job than we've had for a number of years. I dont really care who does it but glad one of the parties has their head screwed whilst running the fkin country! Thats what they're supposed to be doing.
