Atmosphere Thread | 2025/26

Had to skip it last night. Other half got taken into A&E yesterday morning and it looked like she was coming out mid-afternoon as they said all her tests had come back clear, so I headed into town as planned for a few pre-match scoops with some mates. Anyway, I was half way down my first pint when she texted to say they’d had a rethink and were keeping her in overnight for some more tests. She told me to still go to the match but it wasn’t the right thing to do as I needed to take some stuff up once she had gotten a bed on a ward. That was confirmed after 6pm and it was just after I transferred my ticket to someone else. Me and her son headed up to Tameside hospital to drop some things off. Got out of there just before 8pm so technically I could’ve still gone to the game if I’d not transferred my ticket, albeit I’d have gotten in late.

Anyway, I don’t have TNT Sport so I went to the pub to watch it. Caught the last few minutes of the first half and all the second. The atmosphere sounded great in the main and you could tell all 4 stands were getting involved. Could hear the Geordies a few times second half but on most of those occasions our fans drowned them out with chants that spread across the whole stadium.
You did the right thing

I've left this until today, yesterday I was made up with how CB3 joined in with the atmosphere but.....
Sat immediately on my right was a bloke who filmed the vast majority of the first half, he only stopped (i think) whilst he uploaded the footage.
Next to him is a season ticket holder who had on his other side another fuckwit. He never lowered his phone, he filmed the entire time.
I put up with it until half time until they blocked the aisle whilst filming and then I opened my gob and gave them both barrels.
My immediate fuckwit seemed to take notice and didn't film as much in the second half. The one furthest from me carried on.

Its a distraction to me as it's in my eye line and it's annoying. It is one of the many problems currently spoiling football.

It’s not allowed in any football stadium in the Premier League.

Acoustics and Atmosphere - the new North Stand

In response to your point, the new North Stand has been specifically designed to be on ONE large level (level 1) which will hold 9,500 approx. It will be an entire CITY HOME END, not split or divided by away fans.

It has a wrap round design with rear and side `walls` purposely intended to reflect sound down and out. The roofing materials have also been specified with this intention to allow the noise to BOOM out.

The atmosphere was much improved v Newcastle as expected however if the main singers congregate in the new North Stand it will be louder and better.

The reasons why the North Stand can be louder and better are - a much greater numbers of fans, one level, not split, visually impressive and dominant, and the North Stand is designed better for atmosphere than the 3 split level South Stand.

`Cum on Feel the Noize` as Slade sang.
Would make a lot of sense having 3,500 seats or so allocated to our 'loyal away followers' majority make a lot of noise away. It will be unique in EPL having a dedicated section for the majority of away fans (who sing) sit / stand together...in our new home end... it will rub off on the rest of the North Stand no doubt..

That wouldn’t be unique. The unique thing is what we have now with our vocal fans split into three by the away fans. No other club handicaps their own atmosphere that way. They usually have an “end” that leads the way and that would be mostly fans who travel away. That’s why we are so much louder away than at home.

No other club in Europe surrenders (perhaps) the most vocal part of the ground to away supporters in cup games…
Also, City started with a high tempo yesterday and the crowd were with it..
No cagey tip tap for half an hour to kill any atmosphere/ noise — easy start fast and press, the noise will increase.

i agree with a bit of that..but a lot of away crowds now (from a range of clubs with away fans i chat too) come from all parts of the ground......hopefully we make the most of the North Stand

The mind boggles, every game is professionally televised, from every angle, with quality footage of every single incident. When would you ever watch back the entire game recorded from the third tier stand on a mobile phone?
I can kinda understand recording a free kick, corner or penalty, presumably just to brag to friends about your vantage point at the game...but recording long stretches of footage is just bonkers
One theory I have is that when in Spain recently the short Sky Sports highlights are not available on YouTube (presumably rights issues), instead you get fan filmed highlights, they might have people at each game filming for that

All the fat cunts had was EMPTY SEATS and there was hardly any the thick cunts.

Great night! Pep at the end was overjoyed walking around fist pumping.

Come on you mighty blues.
Yep. Superb.
I always think tho that our empty seats are much more visible than say for example, Liverpool’s or united’s because of the blue seats.
But none the less, great atmosphere, onto Forest.

West ham have a similar problem with their white seats, looks atrocious.

Whereas you can hardly tell with spurs for example, with their navy coloured seats.

We should dot dark blue seats in like the Joie academy stadium.

I'm scooped upped!

Don't ever call certain sections of SSL1 again.

Under the concrete overhang and slightly beyond we never stopped singing.

It would be nice if another 45,000 City fans in the Etihad joined in with the singing and support during the game. SSL1 can't do it all on their own.
I'm in SS3 and honestly can't hear the SS1 but to be fair when I get moved into SS1 for cup games you can't hear SS3 especially if you are at the back of the stand.
But just because SS3 cant hear SS1 and vice versa it doesn't mean they aren't singing.. I think it's just the acoustics.
We all need to sing and cheer the lads on..

SS1 and SS3 both tend to do their bit. I’d say the noise cascades down and around the ground better in SS3 but on a good day it catches on well from SS1 too. I can’t speak for SS3 as my ST is in SS1 but unfortunately there’s a tendency for some fans in SS1 not to join in with the songs, despite being part of a designated singing section. On good days like Saturday night, more will join in which is great but we have a situation at times where some of us are doing the heavy lifting and not enough are joining in.

The fuckers weren't bothered for several seasons in the 70's and 80's, think they were down to 7000 in the late 70's for a game !! At least we got decent attendances however shite we were

I think it just depends where you sit. If your at the front or middle of ss1 you can hear ss3 clearly, at least I have when I’ve been in those areas

You sometimes can’t even hear the back of SSL0 from the front of SSL0. And 015 sometimes can’t hear 017 and vice versa.

They need a deeper and larger stand to get the noise feeding down better.

I sit in East Stand Level 1 close to the North Stand and we only only hear NS Level 0 singing, don’t hear Level 3

Interesting noises from some other grounds on Saturday, Chelsea was apparently really really flat at home to Burnley, full of tourists, there have been constant complaints from fans, same issues arise as we've had.

More surprisingly at Villa, lots of complaints about a bad atmosphere, despite recently having their best seasons in a generation. Ticket pricing there seems nuts, and the Leeds game was their first Saturday 3pm home game in over a year!! But there seems to be a very poor athmosphere.

Even the famed Anfield atmosphere has been roundly criticised by their fans, the recent game against us was hilarious, 2 corners of the grounds where there were large clusters of tourists who had obviously cleared out and were wearing the club shop, hats, scarves, jerseys, but not adding to the passion.

So we're maybe a bit hard on ourselves when compared to others, there's a cliche that once you get the reputation as an early riser, you can get up at whatever time you like, and it feels like that with us, we have a bit of a reputation for empty seats and a quiet stadium, so every single slight instance is mentioned and highlighted, despite the fact that the same thing and worse is happening everywhere.

We'll be buzzing for the last 5 games, price it right, sell them early, lock the gates until the game's over...
