Denton and Gorton by-election - Green Party wins

That really makes no sense.

Essentially, this "Labour would rather Reform win" claim is based on the fact that Labour are hardly likely to say "vote for whoever is best placed to beat Reform".
No, it’s based on them going after the Greens so heavily. They’ve played into reforms hands politically pretty much since coming into power

The myth of net zero being expensive. If we had enough capacity to store what we generated, at some point our energy bills would be far lower than if we drilled to find more oil and be forever linked to the price of gas.

That’d reduce domestic and business costs, lowering prices and making people far better off.

The fact Reform are bankrolled by oil companies says all you need to know.
Green initiatives and a push for net zero isn't just about cleansing the planet. Despite what the ill-informed think, it's about reducing our dependence on finite resources. The push for predominantly electric cars by 2040 is nothing to do with governments being eco-warriors, and everything to do with non-renewable energies being depleted. Are there more untapped natural resources that could be harnessed? Yes, but they are also finite, and getting to them would require infrastructure outlays that would far exceed any drive to move towards renewables.

Any opponents of green initiatives need to realise that prolonging a shift in our energy habits will lead to prices skyrocketing, because oil and gas becoming premiums will happen sooner than we think.

It seems crazy to me that we’ve not harnessed tidal power. Create thousands of jobs, license the technology to sell round the world and generate unlimited, cheap and renewable energy.

Instead, we have people shouting “what about China”, whilst they crack on in becoming a green superpower.

Even if you don’t believe the science, it’s a guaranteed way to save lots of money and potentially grow the economy.

On the one hand, we have people shouting that we need to be more self sustainable, but on the other, shouting that we need more imported gas and coal.

Mad isn't it? Oil and Gas will run out and as it runs out prices will rise - its supply and demand.

Wind, Sun and Tidal will not so it has to be the future unless something else is miraculously found. If wind sun and tidal end power for the kettle will be the least of our worries

THIS - I have always attributed it to politicians love of grandiose projects. Localise it - we know with almanacs the tides for years to come. If you made a local scheme for Whitby lets say and other small towns then taking them off grid for say 4hrs twice a day would make a big difference in local pockets - incremental gains. Its always been about turbines across the Severn Estuary and killing the Severn Bore hence people are against it

Tidal is a logistical nightmare. I won't namedrop, but a few years back a prominent engineering company had to cancel a contract for tidal development on the east coast of England because siting the generators proved unworkable.

Our focus should be solar and wind, at least for the medium term.

were they working on big projects or local projects because local has to be the answer

There must be places around the U.K. coast that are viable tidal energy farms?

Wasn’t it just cost that killed the Swansea marins project, rather than it being unworkable?

Has it been re-evaluated as technology gets better?

No person who actually cares about this country would want to continue our dependence on fossil fuels.

I'm labour traditional core voter, was a member 29 and campaigned on 3 elections for them.

They lost my support once in 2005 I they lost my vote as such I left tge party for a year but returned and voted labour until the last election.

I know others who were labour 20/30/40 years who have turned away due to it's ideological shift to the centre right

so it's traditional core support is changing as is the way politics works here.
Labour needs to lean more to the right
If it goes left, (Michael Foot) it has no chance of being elected. It has to appeal to middle England
One of its biggest mistakes in recent history was voting in the wrong Milliband brother as leader

Any stretch of coastline is viable, within reason, but the technology needs streamlining. As of now, the degradation costs are too prohibitive, factor in the comparative simplicity of wind and solar, and most engineering companies still see tidal as vanity projects. Once the technology is streamlined, we're laughing, because the output will be far greater than other renewables.
