That’d reduce domestic and business costs, lowering prices and making people far better off.

Green initiatives and a push for net zero isn't just about cleansing the planet. Despite what the ill-informed think, it's about reducing our dependence on finite resources. The push for predominantly electric cars by 2040 is nothing to do with governments being eco-warriors, and everything to do with non-renewable energies being depleted. Are there more untapped natural resources that could be harnessed? Yes, but they are also finite, and getting to them would require infrastructure outlays that would far exceed any drive to move towards renewables.

Any opponents of green initiatives need to realise that prolonging a shift in our energy habits will lead to prices skyrocketing, because oil and gas becoming premiums will happen sooner than we think.

THIS - I have always attributed it to politicians love of grandiose projects. Localise it - we know with almanacs the tides for years to come. If you made a local scheme for Whitby lets say and other small towns then taking them off grid for say 4hrs twice a day would make a big difference in local pockets - incremental gains. Its always been about turbines across the Severn Estuary and killing the Severn Bore hence people are against it

Tidal is a logistical nightmare. I won't namedrop, but a few years back a prominent engineering company had to cancel a contract for tidal development on the east coast of England because siting the generators proved unworkable.

Our focus should be solar and wind, at least for the medium term.

I'm labour traditional core voter, was a member 29 and campaigned on 3 elections for them.

They lost my support once in 2005 I they lost my vote as such I left tge party for a year but returned and voted labour until the last election.

I know others who were labour 20/30/40 years who have turned away due to it's ideological shift to the centre right

so it's traditional core support is changing as is the way politics works here.

Any stretch of coastline is viable, within reason, but the technology needs streamlining. As of now, the degradation costs are too prohibitive, factor in the comparative simplicity of wind and solar, and most engineering companies still see tidal as vanity projects. Once the technology is streamlined, we're laughing, because the output will be far greater than other renewables.
