Denton and Gorton by-election - Green Party wins

Greens pissed it in the end.

Can't stand them or their ideologies but they won it at a relative canter. At least those in Gorton &, Denton will get cheap energy, a better NHS and a free zoobie at the weekend....(Jokes)

It'll be spun as a "massive fail" by reform but as I said on this thread last week, reform were never expected to win the left leaning seat in the first place, it's more of a "massive fail" by labour.

On the one hand I hope it gives labour a wake-up call as my preference would be a centrist party, but I do worry a bit that it'll push Starmer into moving as left as he can (there was already talk of him doing this pre-by election).

Going to be interesting, to see how the may locals go.
Starmer is zig zag turn zig zag turn zig zag turn........

Outside his own career goals anyone know what the fucker believes in apart from his own personal goals?

You think the USA is a nice place now?

You're pissing in the wind pal, these right wing whackjobs deny observable reality at every turn. They laugh react people drowning in the channel. They cheer on the likes of Connolly inciting hotels being burnt down and cry foul when she gets punished for incitement, they won't ever engage in good faith.

The guy is actually trying to tout that the current version of Labour has, get this, PUSHED US LEFT.

It’s the policies of the left that encourage crossings, which result in drownings.

We won’t be a fascist country if Reform get in, it is absolutely hysterical to believe that.

I think it's very complacent to believe our democracy is Reform proof.

The British system gives a party with a majority far more power than the US system.

Look what Trump is doing.

Look what Reform are promising.

Look at the leaders Farage openly admires.

The current government is locking people up for speech in record numbers, has cancelled elections and tried to usher in a digital ID card they can track.

Farage and Reform are against all that. Farage has openly criticised Trump and the US recently on his policies.

I think you’ve got a particular perspective on Reform that’s not grounded in what will actually happen. Farage is miles away from fascism.

Party observers watch as the ballot papers are emptied out of boxes. As they're put in piles, the X is visible on each paper. Not easy with so many candidates, but counting just a sample from each ballot box and scoring the main candidates will give a good indication.
To those asking about how votes went in each part of the constituency, if you've taken a sample from each ballot box you'll have a good idea of how that area has gone. I don't know about other parties but Labour will know where Reform and the Greens got their votes and where Labour didn't. (Except postal votes.)

But there is no official count by districts.

That’s absolutely hysterical mate, I don’t think you actually believe all that

It’s not a case of believing it or not, it’s literally a fact. Reforms funding comes from the American right and we know from the Epstein files Bannon is deep into reform and they’ve parachuted in a bunch of Trump admin advisers.

James Orr is their head of policy and wants to make abortion illegal in the UK. He’s said on record that he thinks Britain needs its own Project 2025 - that’s the American heritage foundation document that’s defined all of Trumps second term policies - removing child labour protections, removing LGBT equality and pushing biblical education over secular. Reforms stated policy is to remove the equalities act, because the American right wing dont like it.

Aseem Malhotra is an adviser to the RFK jr and wants to make vaccinations illegal in the UK and was given a massive platform at Reforms conference.

Lois Perry is a reform adviser, she’s from an American think tank that believes climate change is a hoax.

If you think reform is anything other than the UK branch of MAGA then it’s because you’re wilfully ignoring them showing you that’s what they are.

Farage has openly criticised Trump and the US recently on his policies.

Where? He literally hasn’t criticised a thing.

100% after two or three years we would be. Steve Bannon has worked on the rise of Reform, just as he helped Trump. It's the same playbook.

They have no policies other than being anti-immigration. If (big if), they were to manage to get that under control what do you think they'd do next?

They will find other minorites to hate. That will probably be the disabled or the unhealthy. They'll then use that as an excuse to bring in a form of Health insurance that does nothing but make everyone poorer and worse off. And all the time pointing at minorities and blaming them for all the problems.

It's all very well when it's not your turn to be targeted, but a lot of people will realise too late that it will be them at some point.

they want to dissolve the equality act taking rights away from everyone in the work place. They don’t have an alternative to it which tells you all you need to know about this absolute shit stain of a political movement.
