Possibility the most relentless, best I've seen were also definitely one of the the most boring - Capello's AC Milan team of the early '90s.

What I'd give for that back line - or even just Baresi and Maldini.
The AC Milan team with Gullit, Van Basten, Donadoni and Savicevic who went an entire season unbeaten and broke Serie A goalscoring records? Dreary as hell they were.

That's them. Generally ground teams down through extreme efficiency, everywhere.

Edit: just checked - is this the record you meant:
"The 1993–94 team solidified this dominance with a defensive masterclass, winning the Scudetto having conceded only 15 goals in 34 games and scoring only 36, setting a record for lowest scoring champion"

I wasn't aware of that when I posted mine, either - I meant their style.

Hopefully we have a mostly fit squad for the games. I can see Pep reverting to keeping it dull & tight away, attempt to impose our game at home. The 4 2 2 2 and squad depth does lend well to it

shit draw for us, if we want to get to the final then its Real, Bayern, PSG or Liverpool.

and for QF and semis we would be starting both ties at home, and decide it away from home. really couldnt have been much worse given the options.

Arse having an easy draw at least keeps them busy until SFs where they will meet Barca most likely. but they wont break a sweat vs Leverkusen and Sporting or Bodo imo while we play sick games vs Real and maybe Bayern.

this March is gonna be sick with Carabao final, 2x Real games and Barcodes away in FA cup again Arsenal having Mansfield away and 3 PL games and all this up until 22nd as international break coming right after that.

my feeling is we either go big and still alive in FA Cup, CL after the month and Carabao in the bag or we fuck up all cup comps an left with the title race for April only.
hate the thought of Arse might win more than 1 trophies this season.

No love, 91-92 when they went the whole season unbeaten, Van Basten scored 29 and some of their scorelines were 4-1 v Roma, 5-0 v Napoli, 4-1 v Ascoli and at Cagliari, 5-1 v Sampdoria and their last 2 results of the season were 4-0 v Verona and 8-2 away at Foggia. The boring bastards.

Anyway, lovely chat, up the Blues.

Looking at our run of fixtures across March and April, that is as tough as I think we have ever had it and it will be almost certain Pep gambles with the FA Cup game at Newcastle with a weakened team.

I think he will be tempted to write that game off to be honest.

Just not convinced we have the team to fight on that many fronts.
Agreed, as much as I think we should be taking the FA Cup very seriously, we are in the league cup final and have made the last 3 FA Cup finals.

With the schedule and fixture difficulty, rotating for the 5th round against the barcodes makes sense.

Newcastle will also have the CL to contend with so maybe they’ll also be rotating to a degree.

Drawing them has taken any enthusiasm that I had for this competition(albeit low to start with) away
It’s just another game, we might win we might not and so roll on to next season

The excitement about Europe in my view is playing different teams. We play this lot more than we play Villa. It’s dull - and the circus that goes around it along with build up BT and ‘Fletch’ is, quite frankly, tedious

It wouldn’t have been better if we got Bodo. We played them recently as well

I don’t go to CL games very often so maybe my opinion is irrelevant but my interest is low for this

A sense of inevitabilty. This format's knock-out stages is tending to be a superleague of sorts, with the token club thrown in depending on the circumstances. We would've been the Bodo/Glimt a decade ago, in terms of competitions "pedegree"(gosh I detest that word)
Anyway, as much as I hate those Franco's Blancos, we have to get used to face them on frecuent basis, if we are to keep our standards; and each time presents itself with the opportunity to make a statement win, and those white cunts hate it, Pep and all.

The worst part is you just know they're going to wheel out mcminimum with his god-awful accent and Real supporters club membership

100%, we can all see it now
Which, oddly, is why I liked us on BT channel 6 for the Bodo game, just normal commentary. Not some bore trying to make name/headline/narrative

We could play them twice very year for the next 20 years, no one will ever see anything like the 4-0 game. I expect that I will go to my grave saying that is the best standard of football I(or anyone else) has ever seen

*I will get cremated but you get the point

Rather watch Real Madrid at home than Salford.

Got to say i didn’t enjoy Salford very much!

£££ talks at the end of the day and the CL offers more than the FA cup. Both teams will be thinking about CL if they have any sense.

Rotation will be a given for both teams I would guess.
