Nottingham Forest (H) | PL | Post Match Thread

Too many dropped points from positions where we should have closed games out has left us with a massive task now.

I always felt we were not resilient and ruthless enough to win the title in a season with no stand outs including Arsenal and its looks like panning out that way. We live in hope but we are out of slip ups now.

It's somewhat worrying that nearly 2 years into our re-build the player who appear to be most dependent upon, NOR, is in fact a product of our Academy.

Pathetic performance. All that time wasted at 1-0. Haaland is nowhere when you're playing 10 at the back. His strength is on the break but we don't break. Not sure what you do about their goals.

Regardless of how bent the ref was.

St James's Park has just made me feel a bit better. Put those giddy cunts, Trafford Park Rangers, back in their box.
Also, it stinks that we twice lost the lead against relegation candidates, at our own gaff. But looking at tonight's results, Tottenham are now in serious danger. How I'd love it if they went down!!

You console yourself how you can…

Post-match exchange with my brother, who was at the game while I watched it on TV.

He also asked if any of the pen calls might have been one…

“Nah, not really tbh. Haaland tried to buy the first! If the ref had given it, VAR wouldn’t have overturned it…which is why refs don’t give them!!

Second one, he was being held, but got released pretty quickly, but by then Haaland couldn’t reach the ball.

The Rodri one??? Rodri got the shot off and Anderson had a high boot and caught him after the shot. Seen ‘em given a thousand times, but not for City in the dying minutes!! Another “non-call, see what VAR thinks” moment!!

Can’t believe the melee at the end, where Savinho has a clean shot on goal and Murillo is in the way!!

Last kick of the game could have won it!!

SOOOO WASTEFUL, but that’s been the story of the season. THIS City team shouldn’t even be in with a shout, esp given the second half collapses we have faced, but the league is so competitive and NO-ONE is running away with it!!

It’s Arsenal’s to lose now! City have a harder run in, and we need them to not only drop more points than us, plus lose at the Etihad, which I’m not sure they will!

Until they scored, in the second half we had 94% (NINETY FOUR!!) possession!!

How ironic that their two goals were scored by players we have been linked to!!! Anderson’s goal was a belter. Curved it around the defender into the bottom corner…but Foden left him to go it!

I’m not sure Foden gets a look in as a starter for the rest of the season and it’s impossible to see him on the plane for England this summer.

Maybe a rest this summer will do him the world of good, because he certainly needs something!!

Not sure why Nunes was switched to LB, but I guess RAN needed taking off and he didn’t fancy Ake against their speed?! Ake was coming on before the second goal.

Nunes was poor.
Foden was poor.
Cherki threatened to be decent but didn’t follow through.
Doku did nothing when he came on.
Haaland got a little bit of service but no clear chances.
Semenyo pops up with a bit of brilliance and works hard but goes missing.

All looked a little rushed and disjointed around the box against their back 10, but that’s nothing new.

Not too many clear chances, but there is NO WAY we should have drawn that game 2-2, when it should have been 3-0 at HT, some refs would have given us at least 1 of the penalty shouts, and they really only had 3 chances on target and grabbed 2 goals. Where have we seen that before?”

Yes, Pep will take each game as it comes, but I think he’s going to be happy with CL football, will play his best team in the Carabao Cup Final to try to get one over on Arsenal and win silverware, and then concentrate on the CL if we can get past Real Madrid.

We have made those season’s PL too hard for ourselves through our profligacy and inability to close out a game…even against teams in the bottom third!

But what if the momentum of trying to make a tackle naturally makes you kick the opponents foot once the ball leaves because the shot had gone and that's where the ball was?

If that's a foul then its a silly rule because it means defenders can't really attempt to beat an attacker to the ball without it being a pen almost every time they don't.

If that should be a pen by the rules then I think that's a poor rule.

Not a pen for me. Two players went for the ball, one got a shot away and there was a natural collision where the ball was.
If there’s a 50/50 and one player gets the ball first and the other player then kicks the player that played the ball it’s a foul. End of. Always has been. Always will be, it’s a penalty all day long

"One season wonder"? Have you been a blue for one year? FFS!
Whilst he was fuckin awful tonight and has been since Christmas, other than last season,he's been fuckin exceptional in the 5 or so seasons before that, so don't give us that one season wonder shite!
my concern with foden is that hes burnt out after 7-8 seasons that hes packed into his career already and that his peak was two years ago.

Sterling, who has a similar physique, peaked in 2018-2019 when he was about 24 snd has plummeted in form since then. and we are now on the downslide with Phil.

same thing happened to Rooney - after starting very young his peak was around 2009-2011, aged 24/25.

Don't think that's far off at all. Ait Nouri maybe a 7. Semenyo's goal gets him a 6 - without it he'd be in Foden 3 territory.
im not goving rodri more than a 5. he got caught a few times and second half his lack of legs allowed their chances and breaks

No we don’t but it’s the manner of the draw that’s the issue, this style of play has had its day or if it hasn’t we certainly don’t have the players to execute that plan. We lack width, we don’t find the centre forward enough and we are so high up it’s piss easy to counter us. Everyone can see this but the one who counts Pep.
I disagree mate. I don’t think our style of play is the problem.
Our problem is we lack the ability to kill games off like we use to.
A 1 goal lead is just not enough to defend.
We score and seem to become complacent the minute we do so.
We lack aggression.
More urgency is needed.

It's somewhat worrying that nearly 2 years into our re-build the player who appear to be most dependent upon, NOR, is in fact a product of our Academy.

Why is that worrying?

Your most dependable of the newer players has to come from some academy somewhere in the world. Ours just happend to come from our own. Why is that a worry?

Thar doesn't mean the players we paid for are shite. It just means our academy has produced a quality player...as it should!!

Thoroughly disappointing result. To even concede one goal was poor, in the manner we did so. I expected more when we got it back to 2-1 but the was no penetration we just ambled about with that side to side horse shoe crap on the edge of the box before trying to thread a ball through four red shirts.
There were a few occasions when we could have broken and caught them before they set up with 6 at the back but no we decided to pause and pass it back.
All our players need shooting practice, all of them. Just shoot rather than constantly pass to the bloody side.
The subs were poor. Just a disappointing night all round. We strolled out thinking we'd take all three points. They were organised and determined, we didn't appear to be either.
Our first goal was great though.
