North Stand Construction Discussion

Some right hyberperly going on in this thread.

From the ofset and pre take over the area was never eramarked for just a football ground or its fans, it was always planned to be a multi entertainment area, plans for a casino, hotel, basketball, relocating the speedway, a race course, amusement park, cinema were all suggested throughout the years so it is quite presumtious to assume the whole area from bradford pit to the gas works is for city fans only.

The fact all this area was prime for investment and renovation for housing and multiple entertainment venture is partly why we were taken over in the first place lets not kid ourselves.

So medlock square may be smaller, dunno not been yet so cannot judge, but I never went to city square much as I found it crap compared to. sitting in a pub in the NQ penned in, normally in the pissing rain or in where it was a ball ache if you wanted a beer and food as they were seperate paddocks, and then the other bar near the stage which was never full.

with holt towns regeneration and more bars opening on the walk from town more options will be opening up, medlock square being one of them, if it's full it's full, and people will be able to work out how it works fairly quickly and work out when to get there and when to go somewhere else to avoid being stuck outside because its at capacity.

Feel like I've read this somewhere else ;)

It's been said on here that it will be the same size as box park Wembley - so how is it a fact that it's the best fanzone in Europe?

And why would it only have a capacity of 3,000 if it's the best fanzone in Europe?
Bigger than the Wembley Box Park

"only a capacity of 3K" still the biggest covered fan zone in Europe

Fully CoveredSheltered
BOXPARK Wembley2,000 – 2,500
BOXPARK Croydon2,000
BOXPARK Camden500
Olympic Park ( Magic Sky)~18,000
Olympic Stadium (Munich)20,000 (Viewing specific)
The Terrace (Brighton)1,000

Medlock Sq might be the best, might not, but what it will be is a 365 days multi use facility that will generate income for the club, it was always stated that it was part of a visitor attraction, enforced by the club's announcement this week

How often did City Square have more than 3k fans actually stood there enjoying the entertainment on the stage or eating food?

You talk about face recognition and it being ticketed for access, where is there any evidence of that

Always easy to criticise others' work as you seem obsessed to do so, much more difficult to offer a better suggestion as to what the alternative would be

Enlighten us as to how the club could have built a bigger square that is covered?

Exactly! The club will earn a fortune from all this and every penny gets put back into the club, facilities and player recruitment?! Best owner and chairman in the world bar none

It’ll be top class. They just need to put more trams on, make sure more trains stop at Ashbury’s and reopen more street parking options for me.
The authorities want to reduce car use in absolute terms by ~8% in Greater Manchester by 2040. Car parking is likely to become more difficult.

To be fair they did control access to Summerbees etc in City Square albeit on a smaller scale
To ensure only City fans had access never much of an issue getting in

They also on occasion controlled access to the square for high profile games to ensure only City fans but that was rare

I take it the mamma mia planning app hasn't been registered yet? Can't seem to find it

MCC’s planning department normally update last weeks PA’s on a Monday. This weeks PA’s start being added either later today or from Tuesday onwards. The PA’s have to be uploaded on to the PA portal/page, so depending on the size of the Mama Mia PA, and the amount of other PA’s, it could be tomorrow or later this week. TBH, it’s a bit quiet atm for new PA’s. Most PA’s are discharged PA’s.

Check the planning portal every day this week. We’re all on it. ;-)

Any news on where those of us that got punted from the family stand two years ago this week will find out where they’re sticking us?

Presumably not in the family stand so we have to stump up extra - think that was implicit in the bit in tiny font on the original email that said they “wouldn’t guarantee” seats there again.

Anywhere you want as long as the seats are available. You were behind the hoardings on the 2nd tier I gather which is no longer the 'family stand'. Or you can stay wherever you are now of course.

Some pictures of the tarmac surface around the Etihad stadium and the the North stand.

I forgot to take some pictures of Joe Mercer Way. :-/
