North Stand Construction Discussion

I don’t work in the construction industry. As I stated, I’m only guessing. Like all of us I’ve followed the build from day one and I’ve noticed over the Winter months, and as HelloCity has posted, progress on site seems to have slowed quite considerably with numerous jobs across the construction site being finished off at a much slower pace. Like you I’ve no reason not to believe what City say, but I still have my doubts. It feels very similar to the Coop Live Arena build where it was obvious it wasn’t going to be finished properly for the planned opening date after numerous delays and setbacks, but the opening still went ahead after assurances from OVG. The rest is history as they say. I sincerely hope the North stand does open for the last home game of the season against Villa, and City win the PL title in-front of a full North stand and 62,000 City fans inside the Etihad. :-)
If kick off time is 4pm people need to get up at 9am, bacon sarnie and coffee till 11am then leave home about midday.

Guessing. After looking around the construction site I can’t see the North stand being open this season. There is still so much work to do across the construction site with only 3 months of the season left. My prediction, right or wrong, pre-season friendly match test events in July.
I'd knock it down and start again.

It's a shocker and it shouldn't be the case that a few giant video screens will hopefully improve the overall exterior aesthetics.

It looks like the Millennium Falcon has been welded on to a terraced Street in Moss Side.

It is quite ugly imo, and I’m surprised how aesthetically un-pleasing the end result will be, considering the standards of developments of you expect from Abu Dhabi. It shocked me when I realised even the roof doesn’t match that of the south stand.

Except that no one knows what either of those will be, so people are being idiots until they do.
That's because the club still haven't told us and it's now March.

Like all the other 'idiots', I want to know how much my and other season tickets will cost next season. :-)

And just out of interest, where the new 4000 FG season tickets will be located around the stadium, and how and when fans can apply for them.

Wherever people pick their (unoccupied) seats, the same way it's always worked. Why would they only be in one section?

Different design to the south stand isn’t it?

I’ve always thought the etihad was a bit of an ugly duckling if I’m honest. That said, if you remove the stand out two of the spurs stadium and hill Dickinson, I think ours is better than most, and when this is all done and cleaned up it will look amazing.

You do know we pay some of the players over £300 grand a week :)
If Manchester streets can be filled with them, so can the outside of our ground.
Cobbles as used in Manchester streets rely on the Camber ( slope from side to side ) across the width normally about 4 m
for drainage as the surface is completely impermeable , they would compound the problem ( apart from Joe Mercer way which has a natural slope )on large areas . But I agree they would be a nod to Manchester heritage, more so than the architects ridiculous choice of brick & mortar

Should the Same all around the ground then do a rap around! Or just do a rap around now

What would you do in its place?

I agree with you. :-)

I’m not saying this will happen, but I don’t want a similar scenario to the farce, dreadful PR, and public backlash that followed the botched Coop Live Arena opening. I’m sure you know CFG own half of the Coop Live Arena?

I appreciate Sisk want to to get the stand built and open on time because if they don’t it will cost them millions in fines. If the stand isn’t going to be open on time, Sisk and City will know that in advance, and I’d rather City and SISK accept the North stand isn’t going to open on time, come to an amicable agreement, and work together towards a completed and proper opening date for the North stand after the season has finished. I appreciate it doesn’t work like that in the construction industry as there are set timescales and penalty clauses if construction and finished timescales aren’t met.

Bam has said its loss-making contract to build the Co-op Live Arena in Manchester is now off its books.

The group’s chief executive Ruud Joosten told Building the firm had completed final contract negotiations with client Oak View Group earlier this month.

“It’s all sorted,” Joosten said. “It’s out of the portfolio. We’re very happy. It’s an excellent building but it’s had some issues.”

Joosten declined to say how much money the firm had lost on the job but confirmed it was “millions and millions”.

Mr Doom & Gloom strikes again. ;-)
What they lose in Manchester, they make up threefold in Abu Dhabi.
