West Ham United (A) | PL | Post Match Thread

Tactics and football have changed. We have gone from every team being relatively equal to some teams being very wealthy and elite. High wages, high expectation. We are, very fortunately, among them. Other teams have now developed tactics to counter the elite, just pack the box and defend and hope for a breakaway or free kick. It's effective. The elite teams need to develop tactics to counteract those tactics. The elite teams that do so will be the most successful. i.e Arsenal have "noticed" that elite teams tend to get more free kicks, throw ins and corners and have adjusted their tactics to make the most of that advantage. We need to innovate and innovate differently every game, we are just too predictable. Most of us know what we are going to do, bring some chaos into the equation, shock us, shock the opposition.

Well, I think we played well without any luck around their box. West Ham did not touch us. Their goal was a goalkeeping error.
We just needed one ball to full kindly for us in the box. Also, their goalie had a great game.
I know this goes against the view of most on here, but it's the way I saw it.
I agree partially with this. Their goal was a blunder and their only chance. But we played walking football till the last 15 minutes. We have played worse and won this season.

Those opening minutes of games are so predictable and unproductive it's like watching the same slow motion training session with incessant circulation of the ball. We waste precious time in games fannying around, its a god send for opponents, particularly Nuno Santos who has us in his back pocket. We have no idea what our best 11 is and neither does Pep because of the constant fecking around with the lineups. We are slow, predictable, and over elaborate, its just never ending midfield spaghetti and like many of us on here I'm already looking forward to the frickin summer....

I feel sick at, not losing the match, but how we seem to have no answer to how we get better.

Each match is the same. We don't seem to know where or how to improve.

Every other team needs X and Y. We've bought a new team and I'm still unsure of where we are.

People are spoilt because they are angry about a shit performance and result? And as for giving it a good go, we are are 9 points behind and the easter eggs haven't been given out yet. I'd say its been a bit of a whimper tbh.
I never fancied us win the league before the season started due to some of the absolute bang average shite brought in the last 3 years, so I'm not as pissed off as some are. That said I dont see how anyone can criticize anyone who found that tonight both boring and not good enough.
Can you not give West Ham any credit, they are fighting for their lives to stay up.
Imo we were unlucky rather than shite.

You are looking at football as if titles are decided by chance and lucky bounces. They are not.
Skill and strategy win titles.. ..... unless you're arsenal, then pushing and grappling well wins it.
Don't falsely comfort yourself that a lucky bounce was all we needed.

I'm beginning to think the same and I feel awful for thinking it as I still love Pep for bringing us all those magical moments :-(
Don't think there is any shame in thinking it. I love the beautiful bald bastard and I'd never actively want him out, but I longer fear the day he leaves. My only worry is these fucking Maresca links just won't die.

Same as the set piece coach we employ. Just settled for mediocrity now with everyone too comfy.
Mad isn’t it gone the likes of Maresca & Arteta to having two absolute failures. Kolo Toure I think had the worst managerial record ever at Wigan. Pep Lijnders fucked off from Salzburg
