West Ham United (A) | PL | Post Match Thread

Couple of points…..
Keeper way out of his depth in the PL
Ditto at LB and RB for defence
Ditto in midfield with the exception of Rodri
Ditto up front
All in all just about right we are second to a very poor Arsenal

We might try to console ourselves with the fact that we are still in 2 Cups but for a Club with the stature we have our season is over. Out of CL and Title Race.
If we are to take stock we have not really progressed from last season either in terms of playing style or having squad of players that one would feel confident of being able to challenge for the title next season. The re-build is far from complete and in fact may be further off. There is no sign of Phil coming back and Haaland'sform like Phil's appears to also have dropped off a cliff. In terms of that re-build 3 players brought in as part of that, Doku, Savinho and Reijnders do not appear to be capable of consistently delivering a level of play required for a title winning side. They have to be replaced and again it might take a season for them to adjust.
This is not about entitlement but a realisation that we had believed the Management structure at the Club was the best in class but has shown itself to be just as fallible as every other club management structure.
As for Pep I really not know what to think. Of course he has credit in the bank but increasingly his selections, slowness in response to the use of subs and failure to adapt tactically has become a real test of loyalty.
Good post mate!

this is spot on

I’ve wondered the same and concluded (rightly or wrongly) that Pep favors Bernardo and Rodri because they’ve seen us through tough and tricky games in this part of the season.

And also that he’s such a stickler for having left-footed players on the left in his back line, that in Gvardiol’s absence, he’s been forced to play NOR more than he ordinarily would have (as DM in the past few weeks), and the expense of a right-footed Nico Gonzales. Note that Guehi, Dias, Nunes and Khusanov are all

Behave, I'd take it in a heartbeat, but I fear Arsenal will have to much for our powder puff midfield/defence.
Let me predict..

We will start brightly, pop the ball about in some kind of narrow turgid system, where nobody plays were they want.

Come 25 mins, our legs go, and around 38 mins they score off a corner.

We come out second half, 5 mins of chasing and going for it, they break after our 300th sideways pass goes astray and it’s 2-0, game over.

Semenyo and Haaland would benefit from a counter attacking approach. Both fast but with poor first touches. So are we going to play like that? Not under Pep. And the thing is tiki taka is sort of ingrained in us and our academy.

I'd get rid of the two I've just mentioned and Doku as god knows what sort of tactics he is suited to.

To be honest I'd play Bernie as a false 9. Cherki has to play. Foden despite being well below par is at least a technically gifted player. And much though he's a lightweight Savinho is also technically proficient.

I reached the "acceptance stage" long time ago, even voiced here in no uncertain terms, there were moments when heart prevailed over head, but right now walking in back from the stadium I managed to discover the the stage " where on earth is this team going to?".
I see no rebuild, I see no team skeleton to build on, see bloody nothing, apart from the next five games that we are able to loose every single of them.
How on earth did he manage to get to the point, where he ended up with the most uncreative team of his career, where no player in able to stay on form for for two consecutive matches.
This is the team that manages to have 3-4 good games per season in the last two seasons, top four material at best.
