West Ham United (A) | PL | Post Match Thread

next round WHU hosting shower of shit 20th Wolves who might come away with all 3 points from here unlike us.

In six years, Arteta has won one FA Cup and two Charity Shields at the club that considers itself to be England's quintessential club and London's foremost club.

Not exactly pulling up trees!
Yep, and Arsenal (and a couple of other Prem clubs have outspent us for over ten years. One FA Cup in six years. Even one FA Cup and an impending Prem is hardly dominance.

Every team raises their game for us. Even TAA said Madrid set out to work harder against us than for any other team, after the Madrid game.
Madrid turn up when it matters in the CL full stop . . .We can't beat a relegation threatened West Ham or Forest never mind Real Madrid.

That is the title done , if we had played all night we wouldnt have scored another goal , we made ample opportunities to win half a dozen games and we didnt take them ,we have the supposedly best striker in the world missing easy chances in every game and other players who couldnt hit a barn door with a banjo.
You cannot fault the effort but our individual quality is a noticable drop off from past title winnning teams we used to have big players who stepped up to win important games , players that have now proved irreplaceable.

He doesn’t carry the team. IMO he’s degraded the team….. in the 2 seasons before he signed,
We scored 182 goals
We conceded 58
We gained 185 points

In his first 2 (best?) seasons
We scored 190 goals - 8 more
We conceded 67 - 9 more
We gained 180 points - 5 less

No doubt there are other factors at play in those stats and, there’s no doubt in the right setup he’s a phenomenal goalscorer but in our setup, (imo) we’re not as good a team with him.
It's your opinion - some agree with you and many don't, including Pep.

I find this hard to believe. We spend 40,50 million for 2 or 3 Johny Averages every transfer window.

And we don’t take our chances, showing composure when needed.
Imagine having an Aguero, KDB, Marhez, Tevez, Sane, Gundog?!
We don’t have any at that level, Pep is struggling with this lot.
aguero ill give you he was class before we bought him but wasnt a big scramble to buy him
kdb chelsea reject and second rate german team
marhez ffs was in leicesters winning team but wasnt rated when signed
tevez was tevez
sane young with promise
gundog had serious injury
yaya wasnt first choice at barca
kompany injury prone
silva gifted player but too small

i could go on they turned eventually in great team but never hit heights of champions league maybe politics stopped that
but it takes time effort and desire

No surprise that as soon as wel took Semenyo and Marmoush off and brought on DOku and Cherki on we looked better going forward

The first chance for Haaland was a great save by the keeper...Haaland does everything right and it is a great stop
His second chance he should hit the target but the movement was there.

Hopefully that is the end of the experiment of playing two forwards centrally....Semenyo for now is a reasonable option from the right....If he can learn to keep possession and cross then he is a decent option there and definitely better than Sav or anyone else . The issue is long term is Semenyo the answer outwide....probably not and unless he improves drastically on basics he aint good enough to play a number 10 role...he has a year to see if that is possible...

Marmoush as I have been saying for a while is a good player but he simply does not fit in here.....he aint good enough to replace Haaland and he isnt good enough for the number 10 role and isnt a winger......id let him go int he summer... we need a different option

Bernardo was probably our best player

Donarumma - I said in the summer before we bought him, is suspect on crosses....there is noe xcuse for a guy his size and he shouldnt be automatic number one...infact he should be dropped as it is down to him we have lost 3 pts today...Trafford should be given a chance...we now have nothing to lose as we aint winning the league (which has been obvious since before Xmas)

NOR - needs to be rested - if we are having to play him every week at his age and experience level then it shows you the lac of quality of our squad - this isnt a comment on NOR, butt he fact that a team chasing Prem leagues and CL's shouldnt be so reliant on a kid his age...

Let me predict..

We will start brightly, pop the ball about in some kind of narrow turgid system, where nobody plays were they want.

Come 25 mins, our legs go, and around 38 mins they score off a corner.

We come out second half, 5 mins of chasing and going for it, they break after our 300th sideways pass goes astray and it’s 2-0, game over.

Reckon we'll get one at the end and it'll fizzle out 2-1

Madrid turn up when it matters in the CL full stop . . .We can't beat a relegation threatened West Ham or Forest never mind Real Madrid.
Two years running, Madrid can only make the play-offs. For whatever reason, Madrid always raise their game above its normal level for us. In their own league, they struggle to beat some of the small sides.

With their vast resources, injuries are no excuse - no-one cuts us any slack when our side is decimated by injuries - fair enough. Goes without saying that we miss the Kevin factor when something different's needed - whether it's a brilliant assist or a zinger of a shot into the net. Some of our fans started taking that for granted unfortunately.

Hope I see Pepijn Lijnders & Kolo Toure first out the door as well. Both absolutely fucking useless, still find it mad how how Kolo Toure could fail so much at Wigan & end up as a coach with us
Aren’t they both out of contract at the end of the season? If so it makes me question peps intentions

The BBC fact checked Pep's comment that we're the sixth highest Prem net spenders of the last five years. They found that Pep is right. We're the fourth highest Prem net spenders of the last ten years.

We might try to console ourselves with the fact that we are still in 2 Cups but for a Club with the stature we have our season is over. Out of CL and Title Race.
If we are to take stock we have not really progressed from last season either in terms of playing style or having squad of players that one would feel confident of being able to challenge for the title next season. The re-build is far from complete and in fact may be further off. There is no sign of Phil coming back and Haaland'sform like Phil's appears to also have dropped off a cliff. In terms of that re-build 3 players brought in as part of that, Doku, Savinho and Reijnders do not appear to be capable of consistently delivering a level of play required for a title winning side. They have to be replaced and again it might take a season for them to adjust.
This is not about entitlement but a realisation that we had believed the Management structure at the Club was the best in class but has shown itself to be just as fallible as every other club management structure.
As for Pep I really not know what to think. Of course he has credit in the bank but increasingly his selections, slowness in response to the use of subs and failure to adapt tactically has become a real test of loyalty.

We should never have been in a title race with the quality of the players in the squad....it was obvious by Oct/Nov. We were only in it due to the fact that Arsenal kept letting us back in and arent actually that good either.

I agree on your statement about the rebuild.
Sav and Reijnders for me are our two weakest players and if it were down to me id sell them both this summer....I wouldnt even blink at the thought.

I disagree on foden....the ability is clearly there and has been since he came into the first team...not sure how he is supposed to return to form when he is not played but he played ok when he came on tonight and at elast looked to make things happen.

Same with Haaland.....keeper made a decent sae tonight for the first effort.....he definitely shold have done better witht he second. ...but class like his doesnt just disappear (no matter how much some people seem to want it to - the factis some people are so wek that when disappointment hits they look for the easiest to blame and Haaland is that)

Doku is a squad player -one I would keep however as at elast he brings something different

As for Pep - you cant polish a turd...not even Pep can do that and that is what he is dealing with right now. OUr transfer policy the last few goes has been poor....very poor. Vianna and Txixi at the end of his time have a lot to answer for here - a lot of these players dont seem to have the prerequisit technique levels to play for a team chasing PL's and CL's

Reijnders
Marmoush
Semenyo
Nunes
Sav

All mistakes at the moment - People will say Nunes has done well but not in the position he was bought for. I dont see that Peps vision and Viannas match at all

Of and while you are consoling yourself about he cups...we could hand Arsenal and league and cup double! We have given them the league...we will have to have a complete turn in form to not give tehm the league cup as well.....we cant defend against West ham at corners .....Arsenal will look at Donarumma under the high ball and be absolutely pissing themselves about the cup final..they wont be able to wait to get that first corner!

Yeah but for six of them 10 years we had accumulated the best team on the planet.
