Real Madrid (H) | CL | Post Match Thread

I have been suspicious that officials have decided to stop showing them drawing the lines and checking in real time this season. We see nothing and suddenly they appear with images to “prove” their decisions. One does wonder if they are fishing for the one frame they will use as onside / offside pending what suits them.

It was proven when Wirtz got that goal against Fulham where he was offside, so they spent time finding a frame where he wasn't AS offside and then made up a rule to say there's 5cm given. Pure corruption but all these nomark fans of other clubs would rather focus on 115 and City, rather than what they can see with their own eyes

They let us be the better team!! They had no need to bust a gut

You think they let us have shots on their goal on purpose?

Bizarre tactical input but I'll run with it..

Would it not have been easier for them to keep the ball and use the extra man?

I wonder if we’ll see that 3 at the back more often after it was tested last night. When we were on it we managed to camp them in a bit - admittedly they were allowing it and in second gear - but it also created a plethora of chances because of the bodies we have up there.

Guehi, Khusa and one more at the back with Nunes and RAN getting up and down the wings to provide width but also defensive cover considering how good their engines are.

Would create a solid defensive base especially given there’d be two midfielders in front of them to provide added protection meaning we’d essentially have 5 attackers plus in 2 strikers, 1 behind and 2 wing backs.

Allows players up top to be central which is what Pep has been trying all season - Doku produced his best form at the start of the season when he was asked to play centrally.

Would mean Stones could get minutes in an arguably less demanding role given he’d have two CBs either side of him.

Something like this:

That’s only good if the bloody full backs overlap and swing in a cross which they don’t and it frustrates the hell out of me, a big lump in the middle feeding off scraps instead of steamrolling into crosses from the wings.

You know they beat us 2-1 on the night?

Apart from the first 10 mins where we couldve had 2/3 goals, they carved out as much as us. If not more.

They played that game in 2nd gear.

To be fair, Nunes finds Haaland a lot with crosses - maybe more assists for him than anybody else but could be wrong there? - and RAN is a freak of dribbling nature.

I agree with RAN’s final pass, though, but think that was come with time.

It doesn’t help that Haaland’s movement in the box recently is - let’s say - stagnant at best. RAN is one for the low-driven cross and Haaland doesn’t attack the front post or middle of the area to make use of that type of delivery.

Just pure instinct. He didn’t ruin anything.
Sometimes I do find you absolute defence of every player to the point of obsession strange but your point on instinct there is bang on. There just isn’t the time to process what’s logical when that ball is flying at you and worse towards the net. Instinct is stop it.

Can't disagree with that. Khus is a future captain - he's already showing more leadership than most of the "leadership group". The lad would run through a brick wall for the team.

Nunes mugged off Vini Jr at one point in the first half. He's gone from me never wanting to see him in the first team, to hoping he's starting.

I'm worried about Rodri being ran into the ground (again). He needs to use Nico G more.

I'm just a bit unsure about Rodri full stop - his ability to run midfields at the mo. The immediate reaction is yes, let's play double with Gonzalez and Rodri, take the pressure off both and shore up midfield, but i think Pep is very concerned about the lack of creativity that will produce, in a side that is perhaps already struggling to convert a decent amount of chances.

22 shots on goal mate

Both Madrid keepers made some good stops, our shooting could/should have been better.

One rolled along the line when Earl clould/should have been there.

We were superb last night given the circumstances.

Madrid didnt play in second gear mate

Obviously the tie last week is what really cost us but for me the first 20 minutes last night was pretty close to the performance against Madrid in the treble year.

If we had managed to have put one of the three or four early decent chances away I’m convinced the atmosphere and momentum would have put us in with a real chance but the penalty and 10 men made the job nearly impossible.

We have struggled to score goals this season but at least last night we created chances.

Kushanov, Rodri and Doku were real stand outs from last night…..but I’m afraid Reijndeer, who pulled out of a very early 50/50 confirmed that he is simply not good enough.

Why can’t we we play with that intensity and commitment in every game...plus we actually turned up for a second half.

Big decisions to be taken at the end of the season……we are at least 4 top players short of being anywhere near where we want to be because the likes of United and Liverpool will be stronger next season.

Also question marks about Semenyo and Guehi who I’m not sure are good enough but we would also probably recoup our outlay should we sell.

Peps treatment of some players has to be questioned….Kushanov and Cherki need to be regular starters plus Rheis and Mfuni need to be integrated into next seasons first team squad and trusted as part of the rotation.

We have progressed on last season but not as much as i thought we would with question marks still over a large number of players.

Haaland doesnt move mate. He steam roll in to nothing.
He likes to hang about at the back post

You think last nights first 20 mins was pretty close to when we battered them in the treble season? Am i reading that right ???

Sad my last champions league game ended in a defeat to them, not renewing this cup scheme next year, FA cup yes but cannot be arsed with this comp and the mid weeks anymore, also the prices are random as are the punters next to you.
Just lay here this morning thinking the exact same thing. Lost my head with people around me standing up to film Madrids penalty. Its not a situation I want to be in and the crowd is an unrecognisable tourist fest of cameras, half n halfs, loaded fries & chicken, coke and popcorn cinema goers where I feel im trapped in some experimental social media gameshow. Big City is watching and if you don't hold up your blue card when the teams walk out you're banished. And its only going to get worst next seaaon with the North Stand.

I'm a legacy City fan get me out of here!

Absolutely. Glad you agree it's a big drop off. Stating we have doesn't mean we're not allowed to, not sure where that's come from?

Hope your day gets better.

Yep, see the thing is I except it! Our drop off is nothing like other clubs that’s what I see!
Suppose you expected us to win the league at start of the season?

It’s weird fans watch football for a long time and do not understand football, how you build a squad, how you need players to settle in a team a system, how some younger players will take longer, how losing so many class players effects a club dynamics, how bringing in so many new players will take time.

I appreciate it was in the heat of the match but why if Bernardo had enough time to see the ball coming at him and stick his left arm out, why did he not instead just step to his left and let the ball hit his chest?

City played well, just needed to finish better. Khusanov, Doku and Cherki were excellent. Particularly Khusanov.
While it wasn't the loudest Etihad, the support was very good indeed from young and old. Someghing to take pride in. I was particularly proud of the passion of the young African, Uzbek and Chinese City supporters around us in the Colin Bell.Stand.
