Pep to leave at the end of the season

I don’t think any elite coach will want to follow Guardiola straight away, his stature, who he is in the game. There’s a decent saying about not succeeding a great leader and that feels apt here.

I like the choices but can’t see it with Vinny straight away, he’ll be our manager one day but I doubt the club will want him succeeding Pep, the legends model not exactly been a massive success at other top PL clubs.

Enrique has spoken about his ambitions of working in the Prem at some point in his career but would you leave PSG now?

Suspect the scousers nab Xabi

I’ve got a feeling they might appoint Maresca. Hope you are right thought but it wouldn’t surprise me. Would feel almost Pellegrini esque and would perhaps put you in a position to pitch an elite coach in say a couple years time.

Hope Pep does do the extra year because I suspect the managerial market will be better come 2027
The exact opposite is true, no-one will be expected to match Pep's results, so it's a free hit. Also any new person incoming doesn't even have to compete with trophies won in the last 18 months or so (because we haven't won any), so I think anyone would relish the chance of taking over this highly skilled team who the current coach cannot get to play for him in his stubborn way.

Vincent Kompany all day long, it's a no brainer. He'd really galvanise the club and fans.
He'd probably galvanise the club and fans but how do you think he'd fare with our current crop of players?
One of the issues we have is that the standard of our current players isn't as high as the players we have had in the last decade or so.

The arrogance of some in here thinking Kompany is just sat about waiting for Pep to leave. Truly outstanding.
For all we know, Vinnie might want a completely separate managerial career to his playing career, with no previous links to any clubs he played for.

Sometimes ‘going back’ can tarnish a legacy if it doesn’t work out.

I seem to remember when pep was just about to step into the etihad it was said part of his job remit was to intergrate the follow-on person that would be taking the managers seat.

Honestly, if Pep leaves, Maresca feels like one of the most logical replacements out there. He already knows the club, the structure, and most importantly the football philosophy — it wouldn’t be a complete reset like with an external appointment.

His style is very much based on positional play and control, so the squad wouldn’t need a massive overhaul to adapt. That’s probably the biggest advantagecontinuity. Players already understand the basics of this system, so the transition could be much smoother than people think.

Plus, he’s not just “Pep’s assistant” — he’s shown he can manage on his own and win. In the right environment, with stability and top players around him, there’s a good chance he could really take that next step.

For me, it wouldn’t feel like replacing Guardiola, but more like continuing the same idea with a new voice.

Good first post, mate. Welcome to the forum.

Lots of 'debate' om here seeing as Pep hasn't said he's leaving at the end of the season. I thinl he'll see his current contract out at the very least and I hope I'm right.

Some fans making out Maresca had been here 10 years. He joined us in August 2020 to work with the EDS - not the first team. He didn't spend even a year with us before jumping to Parma. When he failed at Parma he rejoined in June 2022 and then left after 12 months later to join Leicester.

He wasn't even at City for two years total.

Most people are missing the main point.

Which is, he’s fucking shite.
