Elliot Anderson | Opening bid rejected (p189)

Watching Forest at the weekend, Anderson doesn’t really play as a 6. He’s more the box to box 8 in between Gibbs White in the 10 and Sangare as the 6.

If we’re looking for a 6, then Anderson might not be the guy, although he does play the 6 for England.

Sangare impressed me against Spuds.
tbf everyone impresses vs Spuds these days

Probably, though if Rodri does make it known he isn't signing a new contract I expect the club will tell Gonzalez if he's patient for one more season then he has first shot at the position,if the club belieive he has that potential.
I don't think Gonzalez will be at all patient and wait a whole other season. Wouldn't blame him if he told the club to piss off if they said he has another season of being a backup/cup player ahead. As much as the conversation around Rodri is about short careers and making the best move for oneself in the later stages of a career, Gonzalez is on the other side of it in that he's trying to develop his.

No idea what Gonzalez thinks, nor City about whether he's the one to take over from Rodri, also no idea about what Rodri and City have discussed. Without knowing all that it's impossible to know what Gonzalez and City will do. All we can do is guess and give an opinion based on a guess. So we'll see, for all we know Rodri signs an extension and that's a very different scenario to Rodri going this or next summer.

Of course it's all speculation at this point. I just think the club should be prepared for the possibility we lose and need to replace Rodri and Nico G on top of the other planned outgoings.

Yes, just saying the club might know what's happening, more than likely do,and already know which incoming players they want and need.

You don’t understand the game son.
Ha. I didn't think what I said was even debatable. Wharton is almost always playing one-touch, a much better progressive passer, etc. Anderson is much more of a 'destroyer' sort of mold than a "Pep player", in my eyes, anyway.

Interesting discussion this. I must admit I haven’t really been playing close attention to either player so far, so don’t really have a view, but certainly will be watching them between now and the end of this season.

Anderson is nothing like a ‘destroyer’ and if that’s what he was then there would be no interest from City. The fact them seems to be a lot of interest tells you everything you need to know about him.

the club could show faith and encourage Nico G to stay by offering him an improved contract even if Rodri does stay another year.

We are going to lose a lot of players this summer (most of them need to be moved on anyway for one reason or another). What we dont want is to have to look to replace players that are actually here and can contribute at the level required and Nico G certainly fits into that category.

Our midfield will defintely lose Bernardo and Kovacic.....we need to replace both of those players with first team ready players (not projects)....

Losing a player that is ready to go just makes the rebuild harder and would be incredibly stupid of the hierachy

Sensible post

Agreed, I'd personally keep Gonzalez too.

Rodri, Bernie and Kova may be gone.

Nico G is none too happy with his minutes.

I'd take both Anderson AND Wharton while also letting O Reilly play in midfield and LB.

I think Anderson is more of a box to box 8 who runs hard, is physical, defensive, but also good on the balk with decent crossing from the half space, he makes a good RCM in Bernie's spot to complement O Reilly or Foden who usually go LCM.

Whereas Wharton's overall passing, especially long range and between the lines is the next best thing besides Rodri (nobody is as good as him), even if defensively he has room to improve and Anderson has him beat, they both as a pair would complement each others strengths and weaknesses perfectly.

I know a lot of people on blue moon seem to rate Nico G but I'm not a big fan. I'm not doubting his ability on the ball but I don't think he has the energy or mobility to play as a midfielder in the Premier League. He is fine when City are on top & dominating possession but when facing tough opposition & teams that are very quick in transmission he gets bypassed easily. Anderson possesses that energy to get round the pitch in the same way as Bernardo does, though not possessing the same skillset as Bernardo.
Rodri isn’t fast either. His positioning is superb, if Nico can master that, it doesn’t matter how mobile he is
