Will we win the league this season? No

Gary Neville has been saying it for months. But, I don't see it. We have the momentum, a week's rest, experience of these games, already beaten them convincingly recently and it's a home game. The only thing for them is that they only need a draw while we need a win.

A team can win even if they don't play well. It happens. Plus, Arsenal will have important players back, e.g., Saka, Odegaard and Timber.

But City are favourites and rightly so. The bookies give us a slightly better chance to win vs Arsenal than they gave us against Liverpool in the FA Cup...

I think one thing in their favour is that if they win this game it will by and large wrap up the title for them. The first goal will be hugely important as if they get it they'll just pack their defence and they'll bring out all the shit housery. They've got a huge incentive - the thing not in their favour is that their confidence has taken a big dent and if they lose this game it will be tough for them to get back to that feeling of invincibility.

Need to see how they go on Wednesday before knowing what team they will be able to put out.

That’s not my point and we all know City need to win. So the counter point is, if Arsenal beat us our challenge is over.

Yeah. Dilemma for Arsenal isn’t it? They were pursuing four trophies and now it’s just two. But they are such bottlers can they handle even two? I suspect Arsenal’s season will be a major success with just one trophy. Both Champions League and Premier League are top trophies. So should they put all their eggs in one basket and go for one? Were Saka, Timber etc. rested for Bournemouth in mistaken arrogance? We’ll find out Wednesday.

It's normal to be scared if you have lost the title twice to the team that are chasing you again, that outplayed you at Wembley recently and then smashed Liverpool 4:0.

The 3:0 win at SB has made their fears worse.

But this doesn't mean they are bound to fail. Those on here pretending to know that they will fail are free to make a lot of money from their superior knowledge.

Yes, their football is often hard to watch, but they haven't lost the title yet. If Arteta wins the PL or the CL, he will be regarded as successful. Ultimately, it's about winning a big trophy, especially for Arsenal who haven't won anything big (PL/CL) since 2004.
How a team plays is very important. Just winning a trophy is never enough whatever the pundits say. Arsenal are anti-football. A total stain on the game. Time-wasting from the 10th minute of a Cup Final, pretending to have head injuries. This is why they are despised everywhere. They may win the title but it would be pretty meaningless.

They had a nine point lead. I know City had a game in hand and they still have to play City but it's not that stressful surely. I think the bottling is over done and it's simply their turgid football as you say. Not that it really matters.
I agree

Michael Vaughn the England cricket captain when asked was it Australia's mental strength that led to them dominating Ashes series said that it's a lot easier to exhibit mental strength when you've got McGrath, Warne, Hayden, Ponting et al all at the top of their game wreaking havoc

I think the same is true of City. We've got the best striker in the world, the best midfielder and the best keeper. Those guys and other top class experienced players in our squad imbue the rest of the squad with a sense of confidence more by the way they play than anything else.

Arsenal simply don't have that level of talent in their team and so while it's easy for the media to go with the bottlers narrative as it makes for a better story, the problem is more likely to lie in their lack of comparable quality

While I agree that their football is ugly and even commented in this thread that this might stop them from winning the league, a big trophy is never meaningless. Again, it's easy to predict that Arteta will have other chances at big clubs IF he wins the PL or the CL. Success is more important than style for many club bosses. That's why Mourinho was getting offers well past his peak.

I respect your view but can’t agree about football style. More than ever football is an entertainment business. Long term Leeds suffered commercially because of their deserved “dirty Leeds” tag. Arsenal have damaged the reputation Wenger gave them. You have to win in style these days.

And if you don't play with style you absolutely have to win.
If Arteta draws a blank this season how does he rate amongst managers? If he leaves Arsenal who would have him?

Arteta left City with a strong reputation but has ruined it by playing like a Tony Pulis team. If you have limited unskilful players you can’t be criticised for using such crude tactics. But Arsenal have spent more than any other club in the last five years. There is no excuse for Arteta.

How about we beat Arsenal then lose v Burnley? Typical City!
That's exactly what I'm saying, you can never call it. NOBODY backed Bournemouth to win at the Emirates and a lot thought we might not get anything at Chelsea, and it could have turned out that way.

At the same time, on current form they could scrape a win at the Etihad then lose their next two. I'm betting neither side wins all their remaining matches.

Not true. The result doesn't decide the title, it just makes them hot favourites again. Either side could win them lose the next two.

I'm finding it difficult to make a case for Arsenal winning their last six matches:
Lost to City in the Carabau.
Lost to Southampton in the FAC
Lost to Bournemouth at home.
And prior to that struggled to get past Mansfield, 10-man Chelsea, Brighton, Lisbon and Everton (two 90+ minute goals against the run of play).
Prior to that they blew at 2 goal lead at Wolves and they're clearly rattled. Unless they really get a grip there's no way they're going to win their last 6.

But that doesn't explain the fact that they were well beaten by City at. Wembly, then when you would expect a statement win in the FA Cup to show everyone that Wembley was a one over they still lost again to a Championship side, and yet again in a home match you would expect them to win v Bournemouth.

What do you think the narrative would have been if we'd lost all those matches while they put 4 past Liverpool and 3 past Chelsea?

It's not just those matches, as I mentioned above they struggled to beat Chelsea 2-1 after Chelsea had gone down to 10 men in the early part of the match, needed 90th minute+ goals to beat Everton and haven't looked convincing in any of their last 7-8 matches. Their only decent looking result was 4-1 v Spurs, but against this Spurs side that's almost meaningless.

On us to get it moved to mid-week by qualifying for the FA Cup Final, they probably move the big celebrations to their penultimate game them.

Ideally no Europe on the line when we face them or Europe secured.
At the same time the pressure could adversely affect them. I seem to remenber a lot of our matches not ending well in "celebratory" circumstances, last match at Maine Rd for example.
