Sad passing of a loyal blue Eccles Blue

Like anything in life, after sad news is received such as Sheila's passing, thoughts turn to a life well lived and legacy.

It's truly remarkable, despite only a handful of us ever meeting her, that she has touched so many lives. I never had the pleasure of her company, but I find myself getting sadder by the day. Literally hundreds of Blues, young and FOC, from every conceivable walk of life, are mourning the loss this fine lady. A bunch of much maligned, hard-nosed, one-eyed footy fans, paying tribute to our Eccles. I have no doubt that every single one of us, at some time in the future, will think of her as we hover over the "post reply" button, and edit as appropriate. Just in case she wouldn't approve.

If that's not legacy, then I don't know what is.

Hi
I’m Shiela/Eccles granddaughter I just felt I had to comment and say the family are absolutely blown away by the amount of lovely and heartfelt messages on here about her.
She loved going to the football and clearly made so many wonderful friends and a real city family through it.
Thank you all for sharing your stories and words - it’s brought a smile to my face (along with a few tears) to see that other people thought as highly of her as we did x

She’ll be laughing her little blue socks off up there at me as a united fan having to join the city forum to read the messages haha. She was very happy when I told her my son had decided to be a city fan and loved sharing that with him :-)

As one of quite a few old school cynical, rough arse ,back in the day scoundrel blues who post on here i'm not afraid to say your post reduced me to tears, she'll be sadly missed by all on here, my sincere condolences to you and your family.Maybe a small comfort but she was universally liked on here, a unique individual in this place.
RIP Sheila

There's still time to see the blue light :)

Well done for posting, pretty amazing what trails people can leave, that we only uncover later.

But seriously, we need to talk about this united thing. It's not healthy. Everyone looks better in blue anyways.

Great post. Your gran was such a well respected lady that i think we can all forgive you for admitting you're a united fan. Well i can, Michelle ; )

Joking apart. The amount of posters saying Sheila brought a smile to their face speaks volumes about her. She never got angry or argued, she just brought her kind of passion and enthusiasm which was endearing. X

I'd like to echo @Carlos- the- jackal here and to add that not only was she universally liked on here, a unique individual..... But to be as universally liked on BM as EB was, was in itself a unique.... very unique (as Barry Davies might say) achievement.

And thank you for taking the time to post on bluemoon.
Your grandmother was a special lady....as you obviously know :)

Being a blue born in Eccles I was drawn to her posts and she provided some comfort and fantastic support to the club and team, she did raise so many people’s spirits with her positivity and humour,a rare gift.
Similar reasons here, besides the fact of her being such a delightful lady.

Were never many Blues in Eccles, predominantly red scum.

I don't live there now, I prefer to keep the memories of what a lovely town it was until Salford council ruined it.

I feel so sad about Sheila, she is going to be very much missed x

Sheila is an absolute legend on here. The grandmother of this family. We were lucky to have her.

Here's a post that you might like:
I remember how proud she was that night.

At 9.00pm GMT last night I watched my Granddaughter, who is in Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada play football for her University team Acadia Uni nicknamed the Axe Women!! She scored a goal in the first five minutes but unfortunately they had some 'technical difficulties' so I didn't see it but I saw most of the rest of the game.

Technology is wonderful sometimes. She's playing again on Sunday. Same time same channel. :-)

Plus another thing (could be interesting or not) I was talking to a cousin of mine over here a couple of weeks ago about the fact that I used to play football with the lads and we got into a discussion about the fact that sometimes we called it Football and sometimes Soccer when we were kids.

Like many people on here, I don't post often but spend far too long reading other peoples posts. Eccles / Sheila's posts always made me smile and wished I had the same level of decorum and class she always showed. I did worry when she hadn't posted for a while and then noticed the post in missing bluemooners. My heart sank when I saw this thread, and I did not know her, to me that speaks volumes to the impact she has had on this forum and the wider City family.

Rest in peace EB.
I couldn't have put it better myself. Sheila / Eccles post also made me chuckle and her love of Jonny Boulders.

Rest in peace Sheila. You'll be missed on here.

Even though we knew what kind of person she was from her contributions on here, with some people you can just tell by looking at their face. Hers exudes warmth and kindness.

Sorry to your family for your loss - may she rest easy.

Shocked to have read that Eccles Blue will no longer be posting her reasoned comments - I will miss her as we occasionally shared amusing anecdotes.

RIP and sincere condolences to her family with a special shout-out to her granddaughter for her message of appreciation to Forum members.
