The Labour Government

Don’t see how this recent news will change the price of eggs, unless it’s confirmed that Starmer knew that Mandelson had failed his DV. If that is the case, then he needs to answer for his actions, but with Starmer openly stating that he was not informed, it’ll be interesting to see what actually happened.

Obvious that all and sundry would jump on this, and as he has stated that he won’t resign, what is the appetite for Labour to move him out. How many in the party will want somebody new so close to the elections, and who is there in that Cabinet to take over the role.

He may not be peoples cup of tea but I’m not sure there’s anybody out there, from either party. It’s a very small pool, maybe even a puddle.

I don’t say that. I said, he made a statement that he had passed vetting when not in possession of all the facts so it was an inaccurate statement or he made a statement that he had passed vetting when in possession of all the facts and it was a lie.

Sorry, I wasn’t accusing you, simply stating that from the options you stated, bluemoons kangaroo court had already decided, without knowing all the facts
 
We are debating whether the prime minster should resign over whether he knew about Mandelson failing a security vetting or not.

and the audience laughed and all came to the same conclusion that this was a 'smart political move' with absolutely no foreseeable scenario where it might backfire.

I don't understand the obsession that the PM had with Mandelson anyway. What did he have on anybody else that made him an ideal appointment? Any random bloke on the street would likely be less controversial. As a lawyer, leader... You'd be far more careful and less naive to avoid controversy.

I mean christ you only have to look at his history, the guy still hung out with a billionaire convicted paedophile after he was convicted and Starmer was an ex chief of the CPS... Now it comes to light that Epstein had Mandelson compromised in basically every single way.

Even if he had passed his DV it makes absolutely no sense to appoint such a person to any role involving anything important or sensitive given his associations. Mandelson is now being investigated for the exact things that the DV would have exposed as a risk and for that risk to then play out is a huge national security failure.

All that is happening now is a gigantic cover up and arse covering as this useless bunch of tossers attempt to save their jobs and who knows there could even be criminal aspects to this given what Mandelson was up to. Forget Starmer, for me this is enough to bring down the Labour government in its current form.

It’s a scary thing that it seems that none of his senior team look remotely capable of taking on the role (think Liz Truss) - with perhaps the exception of Streeting who at least seems a good communicator. But he’s a Mandelson protege.
Reeves, Lammy, Cooper -and Rayner all fall well short. The other political parties are not relevant to the question.
I’m pretty sure in my own mind that Starmer will have known, has lied and under normal circumstances would have to go - but I’m ambivalent whether it would be beneficial unless it leads to a GE. Can’t see any pathway to an early GE.

As other posters have said, it was all driven by fear - the sheer terror of a Trump White House. It’s been pathetically transparent from day 1.

It was transparent. Mandelson knew the people in the WH, knew were all the bodies were buried so that is why he got the job and everyone knew that. Mandelson is a nasty shit and was sent to work with other nasty shits.

Then everyone jumped on their chairs, hitched their skirts and started screaming in horror.

So much for ‘realpolitik’ I guess :)
