John Stones set to leave at end of season | Confirmed by club (p11)

I think if he’d had a normal injury record he’d go down as one of the best CBs ever to play the game.

One of my favourite Pep era players, going to miss him but in the last 18 months he’s not been able to play at his normal level when coming back from injury and never really stayed fit long enough to hit form.

Also remember how we found out we’d signed him because he was out on the CL squad list before the transfer was announced? What a morning that was.

Didn’t Pep say he was the bravest player he’d ever coached. High praise indeed.

Bar injury, I believe he would be in the argument to be the best centre-half England has ever produced. On his day, utterly elite. To me remembered with fondness and admiration.

He was outstanding in the treble season. Such a shame his injuries ruined his career. Could have been as good as Baresi/Maldini/Nesta for me.

Born to play for Pep. I've never seen any centre half more comfortable on the ball.
Reminds me of Rudi Krol from the great Dutch side.
His performance against Madrid was awesome. They stood off him. Sign of fear/respect.
End of an era this season - beginning of a new one.

It had to happen some time. Absolutely key to our success at times with his style and stepping up to midfield. Class player too.

Those years where he HAD to learn Peps way, Pep stuck with him and it paid back in dividends.

Not another one…

What a player. Just an unbelievable signing who is rolls royce on his day. Stepping into midfield when needed.

Seems a decent sort aswell.

His sky signing on video is one of my favourites. Posted it many times with any excuse.

Spit disclaimer at start…sorry.

2 absolute club legends departing in the summer. Gutted but happy to have been able to watch both.

Always makes me laugh when people go on about the goal line clearance, when it was his mistake of booting the ball against Ederson that had the ball heading for goal

Top quality player when he was fit, but as Swales said when he sold Trevor Francis, “what’s the point of owning a Ferrari if it’s always in the garage being repaired”

He was fucking brilliant for us (when fit)

Top man, top player

Hope he can trot out against Villa and thundercunt one in at the new Pep end.

Cheers Johnny Stones

I kinda want him to retire and become a coach here.
I know what you mean but somebody says the same pretty much about all of our top players that leave. We'd end up with 20+ coaches if we did that!

Realistically, some are cut out for coaching and some are not, irrespective of their individual careers. I have no idea if Stones is or isn't.
