Gabriel headbutt on Haaland

Because he wouldn’t have deemed it a head butt as such. I wouldn’t either, my issue is more that PL referees do interpret it that way more often than not and we’re in a world now where consistency is the most scrutinised thing.
They interpret it that way because if the intent, and under the definition of the rules it's a red card. Somebody posted it earlier I think, FA rule 12. Absolutely no dispute that it should have been a red according to the rules.

This double negative has confused me. Gabriel butted Haaland. We've all seen it. Some are persuading others that it was hardly a Glasgow kiss but it is violent conduct for which the LotG sanction is a red card, not a yellow for the perpetrator and a yellow for the victim. Bending the LotG.

No, you can interpret it that way, others can interpret it a different way. Both are perfectly fine interpretations. Nowadays everyone seems to take it as a given that like Neville said, any forward movement of the head on that situation should be classed as violent conduct.

It is and always has been bollocks. Some interpret it that way, others don’t, because it’s whether you think excessive force and it is endangering an opponent. I’d rather that it isn’t seen as violent conduct as I don’t think it is or even for that matter a headbutt, for some reason football has taken it upon itself to completely change what the definition of a headbutt is with these!

My issue is more that they aren’t consistent with that interpretation and haven’t realised the world has moved on so much that fans don’t allow referees to have their own interpretation any more. I don’t agree with that sentiment but it is what it is and as a consequence, they need to update the laws of the game and be a lot more descriptive with it and make as many as possible objective rather than subjective. At least at the PL level. The rest of the game can hopefully keep its sanity.

All well and good as a club be honest but I’ll bet you a million quid if that was done to Gabriel he would have went down like a sack of spuds screaming holing his head! Haaland gets a red we miss him from three games! So if we was coached like arteta’s little bitches Gabriel now would be missing 3 games! That there could be the the title and why the rules of refereeing is all wrong it’s like they want players to cheat and dive! It’s a fcuking joke!

No, they posted something that is nowhere on rule 12 and a misunderstanding of how the laws of the game have always been applied. They need updating to reflect the new reality we’re living in.

If it was the other way round, Turkey Teeth would have hit the deck and Haaland misses 3 games.

Haaland doesn’t hit the deck and helps Gabriel out, so what do we want here? Do we want players dramatising or not to get decisions?

PGMOL are a set of wankers who pick and choose, Oliver and that bald daft **** are the 2 worst referees in Europe.

It's the intent rather than the force that says it should be a red card

No it isn’t. It’s the use of it that matters. It’s whether you think Gabriel used excessive force or not.

What intent did you think he had? As it clearly wasn’t to seriously injure Haaland, unless we’re all willing to accept football really has gone that soft. I admit the pl in general seems to have gone that way, but personally I’ll leave that for people like Arsenal fans… ;)

Neither. It not to be deemed a red card and book a player if they did go down acting injured from it is what I’d like more refs to do.

Objectively, I don’t see how it cannot be a red card when you look at what must be over a hundred of available examples over the last two decades across the four professional divisions.

It was a stupid attempt at putting his head into Erlings face..it was a red regardless of lack of force..you aren't allowed to put your head into someone's face.
Do you think if it was the other way round that Erling stays on the pitch??

With Taylor yes, hes not given those as reds before either. Yes you are allowed to do that, that’s always been a yellow. What changed at the pl level was people then giving reds for any forward movement.

Like I said, I don’t see it as violent conduct because it just isn’t to me. It’s handbags at best and that people call it a headbutt just shows how much we’ve allowed it all to soften.

Well it is, according to the LoTG that someone kindly posted earlier..

No it isn’t! There is nothing in the laws of the game that says that that was definitely a red card. That’s not understanding how the laws work at all.

You can think it was a red card. Someone else can think it isn’t. Both are perfectly fine interpretations and within the laws of the game.
