Burnley (A) | PL | Post Match Thread

It would be strange if Arsenal suddenly become a free scoring side. Burnley is the only game you can see them winning by 4 or 5, we're capable of doing it to anyone.

If we win all 5 and still lose it by a couple of goals, will it be down to tonight or down to the points thrown away against the likes of Spurs, Forest, West Ham.

Obviously it's over the season so that's the answer. But tonight was the first of a 6 game season effectively and Pep clearly wanted to put goal difference out of the equation to some extent. A 4-0 win would have put us in the driving seat. I didn't think he would worry about it until the final couple of games, if necessary.

Could be that a team drops points pushing too hard for it as the dippers did in 2014. 3pts is the vital thing. Considering we beat Liverpool 4-0 even a tough game on paper could swing things.

Based on the season so far I would be stunned if both teams won all of their games and goal difference was decisive.

Was out tonight so didn't; see the game but back home now and starting to watch it....one thing strikes me before the game starts...Neville wittering on about how City have the players who know how to win etc etc...well, 8 of the starting 11 have not won a PL title with us or another PL club before...GK...Khusa..Guehi...RAN..NOR...Cherki...Doku...Semenyo
The fact that these guys are in it now is testament to how well they have done and should give us confidence going forward , if not this year then this years experience should hold use in good stead

Well done City. An important 3 points.

Credit to our travelling fans. I always like to hear the “Boys in Blue.”

It’s ironic people rambling on about our players being nervous after they’ve been calling the Gooners bottlers.

The treble is still on. We are in the best position we’ve been all season. We Fight to the End.

Really never have understood this narrative. We could play worse at Everton and win 3-0. Football is not an exact science and never will be, you can never know how the ball will bounce, how often a defender will get a foot in, if a keeper will play a blinder or if every other shot gets deflected, whether the opposition will play like it's their cup final or whether they'll be crap or a thousand other variations. It's called football.
Law of averages say out of 28 shots more than one goal hits the net , would be happy with one shot on target at Everton as long as it is the winner , its called , get over the line.

Record under Pep after 33 games:

16/17: 65pts
17/18: 87pts
18/19: 83pts
19/20: 66pts
20/21: 77pts
21/22: 80pts
22/23: 79pts
23/24: 76pts
24/25: 58pts
25/26: 70pts

That's not really true, we had enough chances to win three games, that's a big frustration of course, but from the moment we took the lead, everything looked all a bit casual, that's something "wrong with the performance", we played like it was a friendly after going in front, but mentally that might be about the difficult game on Sunday, mentally that was pretty tough, right to the end of added time.
That's the point, you can't go into a match and assume we're going to play well and/or win 4 or 5 nil just because it's Burnley. On another night we have the same chances and 4 go in, it's just the way it goes. I think it felt a bit flat because of the atmosphere, or lack thereof, in the stadium as their fans knew they were already down and the early goal killed any remaining hope they might have had. But we did more than enough to win, we did and that's all that matters.

Made hard work of it, but we take the win and move on. Was expecting there to be a bit of a hangover from Sunday, but some leggy, nervy performances there tonight. Would be tempted to rotate a bit on Saturday to freshen things up.
Leggy definitely, but i dont think it was nervy from the players. Surely its at least 10 new players on Saturday.

Great performance and the 3 points is the main thing however I can’t be the only one who’s a lot less confident going into the final 5 games. A Everton A Bournemouth potential banana skins we play like that and we lose the league. If it does go down to GD we’ll look back at this game as a missed opportunity. However is it even likely Arsenal win all their games ?

We've conceded 1 goal in 5 games. Dispatched Arsenal (x2), Liverpool and Chelsea. Playing brilliantly in all games. Tonight we won away to go top of the league for the first time in 200 days. And could win the league title. Yet, you feel flat?

Make it make sense. Haha
Precisely because we've been playing so well.

And the 200 days thing is no more than a sound byte - what difference does that make?

Have a look on the Arsenal forums - I bet there's a bit more belief than there was at 5 past 8.

1-0 wins will do fine, they won't win all their matches. On current form they don't look like winning any of them.
We were Ok tonight , nothing to shout about , but the Goons have been shite for weeks , they only turne dup at the Etihad because it was their last chance saloon, we havent won it , they have blown it
