Pep to leave at the end of the season

Enrique and Vinnie are the only suitable replacements. They probably aren’t available.

Maresca has worked at the club under Pep, is highly thought of and like I said, he’s had a fairly decent start to his managing career. He’s a suitable stop-gap option.
Exactly - Why would they leave where they are right now? And why would they want to immediately replace the greatest manager of all time
We overestimate our pull at times, managerial market is absolutely on its arse. I’m not jumping around at the idea of Maresca but it absolutely makes sense to me

He did about 5 minutes with us, working with the kids, mate.

He then went to Parma and got fucked off by them.

He did a decent job at Leicester but in the championship.

He then fucked off to the biggest basket case in football. That tells me all I need to know about the man’s intelligence. Where he again, got fucked off.

He’s won 1 trophy of note.

The other “trophy” is a preseason kick about against a load of Columbian taxi drivers who’s training regime consists of 40 cigs, a bottle of Jack and a family bucket of KFC.

He’s absolutely wank.
Vinnie also had only won the championship before Munich taking the risk on him. Look at Chelsea now without him, no one would succeed at that club.

Who would you replace Pep with for next season?

I actually rate maresca higher than kompany.

I think he will surprise people and he isn’t exactly a shrinking violet so the fans will love the passion.

Just read what the Chelsea players say about him.

He obviously won’t be close to pep but who would ?

Is there any indication from these folks about what Pep plans to do next? A year off? International management? Even going upstairs at City?

Enrique, Klopp, Kompany, Ancelotti would be the moves.

The players heads would simply not compute going from having the greatest coach of all time to some dick who had a decent season at Leicester and blagged a competition that’s that shit we’re never even in it.

They’d laugh him out the room within 5 minutes.

Like Klopp would come to City. None of your targets would be available or open to come to City. Ancelotti is never the man to replace Pep.

You could have said this about Kompany around 10 months ago tbf.

I refuse to believe the club would go from the greatest of all time to Enzo fucking Maresca.
Surely after 18 years you realise our owners do not do things on a whim. This will be part of a long term plan.

It's pretty much an impossible task replacing Pep so our owners probably see Maresca as the safe option and for a smooth transition until we can get Vinnie or another world class manager.

By all accounts Meresca was well liked and respected by players, staff and the hierarchy when he was here, so I very much doubt this will be our Ferguson/Moyes moment

You were calling me the biggest melt on the forum not days ago and here you are crying like this, lmao.

When he went to watch port vale vs Stockport when a big champions league game was on that was when I thought yep he is off! Why? He either promised someone he would go to watch them or like I’ve posted the other day a bucket least of watching a live lower league game as a fan..

Regarding Maresca not my choice but I’ll be backing him if becomes our manager and if he can get out team playing like when Chelsea played psg in the club World Cup we should be ok..

It’s getting the players on Board if we go through a bad spell them still doing what he is coaching them. Being Italian also he won’t be as calm as Pep he will question referees if we have bad decisions..

Fucking hell. You said 18 years and I was thinking "it's not been 18 fucking years...". Where has that gone.

Interesting that he’s going in a WC year, one thing to note is that the players won’t have much time with the new manager before next season starts.

He must have wanted out for a while now.

A couple years ago (when everyone thought Pep was for sure leaving then too, with a year left on his contract) Xabi Alonso was all the rage and all the clubs were after him. Many argued he was the only appropriate replacement. Worked with Pep, knoes the keague

Now, if Pep really is leaving and the club are aware of it, and Alonso is available, then if they go for Maresca it must mean they really think he is the right guy for it. Rather than because he is available.

Note, I am not advocating one over the other, and still think Pep stays.

Pep was unique in that he is truly elite with tactics as well as motivation.

You usually get a manager who is one or the other. Klopp for instance was all about motivating the players.

No matter who we get they wouldn’t be pep. He is the best to ever do it imo

Maybe it’s Peps next move ‘he couldn’t do it at Stockport County’ ;-)
