47 | Phil Foden - 2025/26

Wish you where my boss
We can afford to help him and we should.

It's not like he's some random player we drafted in three years ago from Anderlecht or Girona (or wherever) just to fill a gap in the squad, he's a very special case who deserves grace and time from the club and the fans. He's been with City since he was a child, has supported City all his life, is from Stockport/Manchester, is our most successful academy product by miles, and along with Nico O'Reilly is the biggest advert for our entire youth system.

He's been at City, playing for us at all levels, since he was four years old. He progressed and progressed and progressed every single year for City between 2004 and 2024, became our most decorated academy player, and was an essential part of the greatest team English football has ever seen. Two years of patchy form, brought on by very visible physical and mental health problems, is nowhere near enough to sever that kind of relationship.

I'm not saying we need to give him a massive pay rise. I'd say keep him on the same wages with performance-based incentives to increase his wages. But he's one of our own in every sense of the word and, as a consequence of that, he deserves more time than other players would get. He needs time off from City, not time away, and the best way to do that is to tell him we'll be there for him for as long he needs in order to get right again.

If he goes out of firm then it’s not fair on players who have performed all season only to get dropped in favour of a player who may produce . Nowhere near good enough to go atm .
In fairness I don’t think anyone in his position has had the best of seasons either, big fall off from Palmer and Bellingham.

Probably the best thing for him not to go though, I’d retire from England if I was him, put it behind him like Carragher and Scholes. He never got a fair rub with England and the other twats never pass to him.

I don’t think Bellingham or palmer should be going either as rogers Anderson are more deserving

Tbh I’d never get rid of him as he will cone good .

Good news, if the rumour true. However; next season is going to be huge. He's been underwhelming for two seasons now; the drop off from his form when he won the POTY award is frightening, whatever the reason for it. He needs to go away for a few weeks (can't see him going to the World Cup), get a bit of sun on his back, get whatever help he may need, recharge his batteries and report back raring to go. It's in his hands now.

Totally agree. If you believe the rumours it does seem like Foden’s team are happy with an extension without a pay rise at this stage. To be reviewed if/when his form returns. The right decision for both player and club.

There's nowhere better for Phil than City right now. It's about so much more than him just not looking right on a football pitch, it's his home life and his health that are causing him problems. This is part of why Dele Alli went the way he did - Spurs cast him out and sent him somewhere else, just at the time when he needed an arm round him. Aymeric and Pep have both come out this week and said that there's no club in the world that looks after its players and staff like City do, and we absolutely don't want to send Phil to a club where the standards of staff care aren't so high.
Twas a tongue in cheek comment, Bob.
