Everton (A) | PL | Post Match Thread

Very disappointing tonight. At 1-0 and just after the defensive fuck up from Khush, Nunes and Guehi, resulting in their playing missing a sitter by playing it straight at Donna, I said to my mate, “we’re playing the clock rather than Everton” meaning we’re trying to run the minutes down by keeping possession.
That doesn’t work with this group of players, because they cannot look after the ball well enough. I know this is Peps mantra, but we don’t have Silva, KDB and Gundo anymore. We are always vulnerable to the turn over.
Look at each Everton goal.
1.Guehi fuck up… no need to pass it back
2. Cherki? Carelessly Losing possession on the edge of their box, resulting in a corner, which wasn’t defended properly
3. A quick throw in by them and Kovacic and Guehi running in divers boots, a shit shot from their player falls to an unmarked Barry.

Possession stats mean nothing if you don’t make it pay. Walking football from us for most of the game. Why can’t we do more of the quick pass through the lines like our 2nd goal tonight and our winner at Burnley? No defenders can deal with Haaland running onto those. It is a major weapon that we are reluctant to use for some reason.

All the back four, plus Cherki, Semenyo, Gonzalez were very poor tonight. Marc Guehi was shown up for a lack of pace on a few occasions tonight, as was Nico G and Kovacic.

Credit however for the comeback, but the game should have been won in the first half really.
In that first half, PSG wouldn't have been more dominant in open play, but they would have been four or five up. Before the game I said to my sons 'Going to be a horrible watch - Everton will form a massive bus - we'll have chances that go floating over the bar or are sliced/scuffed and they'll raise their game and hit us on the break.

I sat up and watched a re run of the treble season games last night. On comparison with today’s team, we had the experience and were fluid all over the pitch. At the moment our younger players are still finding their way. The future still looks bright, and if we can get the FA cup over the line we have done alright. We just have to accept that it’s finally looking like arsenal’s year, but great credit to the boys for pushing.

The future very much looks bright.
We really should not be in a title race this season. We have far too many new players trying to understand the system and build a relationship with each other. It will come in time and City will win multiple titles again

It shown in those bad 2nd half's ? will need to learn how to kill the game off or build a better lead than 1.0 and think the job done. One mistake kills us and panic sets in ? Nobody gets hold of the game and settles the players down and before you know it, you're back chasing the game.

If the season ended right now, I would be very happy with the progress and silverware. But we still have 4 games to play and a FA Cup final, so it's not all gloom and doom

Everton wont score 3 goals in their last 3 games in total...
They probably won't, i agree, they're inconsistent .... but somehow they managed to score three tonight against a side with one of the best defensive records in the league, and we can only hold ourselves accountable for that.

I guess what most easily let themselves forget is we are damn fortunate to even be in this race. Arsenal choked us back into it and they well could do it again.

It was a shocking error, especially as he knows Donnarumma isn't great with his feet and given what he did against Arsenal. He could have turned or booted it anywhere instead he did what he did. Look Everton were gaining momentum but we'd weathered it a bit, gifting them that goal lifted the whole stadium and their players.
Guehi has been magnificent for us. The back pass was mind boggling.

Had a feeling arsenal wouldn't get 3 points at West Ham, so we'll see how that pans out this weekend.

West Ham are down and out ? Arsenal will be 3 or 4 up before half-time because the pressure is off after tonight

Way too passive, too hesitant and unfortunately too many way off colour tonight. Defensively we were abysmal in that 2nd half and but for 2 huge Donnarumma saves could've conceded 5.... to Everton..in one half of footy. As if Letting an absolute donkey like Thierno Barry score twice against you isn't bad enough.

Doku was excellent, Phil had a decent 15 min cameo I thought but as for the rest? Pffft. Erling got 1 decent ball played to him all night but our back 4 were poor and weak, Gonzalez looked ponderous, Bernardo off colour and Semenyo is playing like he's dragging a fridge behind him these days. Cherki has been leading our attacking threat for weeks but he too had a bad night.

You can't throw in the 30 minute shambles we did in that game and expect to win leagues I'm afraid. Pleasing to see us show character and fight back, and also a nod to Nunes who chased back 60 yards towards his own goal to save conceding another, and getting the ball back up the pitch in minute 96. Having got the ball back up and winning a corner we salvaged an equaliser which might be important - probably won't be but at least it showed he's the sort of guy I'd want in my trench when the chips are down.

Disappointing to see a fair few bugger off in our end at 3-1 down as well. This is a team being rebuilt and is still learning about itself, and on a night when we were way below our best we still showed some cojones to not give it up.

We did everything that you shouldn't do against Everton and allowed their fans to create a sense of injustice rather than turning on their own players which would have happened if we'd gone for the jugular rather than farting around and letting them back into the game.
Suddenly they were playing long diagonal balls behind our full backs and should have equalised from the Nunes error.

Great goals from Doku, but he should be encouraged to shoot more rather than this constant recycling.

Why not just wipe your eyes and go to bed, because you are correct and I'm taking no notice of Your explanation. I am obstinate, but I am also a City supporter who accepts the ups and downs in performances. That is the difference I observe in our inputs to the forum.

Your input has been as predictable and expected as it always is.

You can't help it because you are just a miserable sod, who never sees anything positive in what City do, despite your so-called allegiance to the club.

Good night !
I don’t care about your football opinions.

You’re just coming across as a nasty old coward.

A man who can’t admit when he’s wrong is no man at all. Sleep on that and have a think.

Agreed.

We've had a lot of very good second halves recently to be fair, tonight wasn't one of them, but the recovery from 1-3 was good.

Loved Haaland's goal. Up there with the best of the season.

Five more minutes and City win that 4-3.
Now that you mention 5 more minutes, How on earth was their only 6 minutes added on?

The game stopped for Semenyo straight after HT as he was down holding his head for a couple of minutes, numerous substitutions and goals, not to mention time wasting...Yet we get 6 minutes.

Doku should be not be playing on the wings ? Madrid with Vinicius Junior, don't stick him on the wings all the time

Bothered ?

If we win 2 trophies this season, it's been a great season, as for the league, we've mostly been out of it since October, but here we are, still not completely out of that either.
Exceptional that a side as young as ours (half the team aged 23 or younger for most of the season) will be back at Wembley to chase down their second trophy of the season. Incredible that they're still breathing down Arsenal's neck - albeit they're huge favourites now. But we have to face the fact that whoever we sign in the summer will not be an upgrade on Bernardo the legend.
