The Squad planning thread

Really? All of which have no experience in winning anything and it’s just project after project. Do people not learn anything?
The majority of the players we have signed to become successful didn't have experience in winning.

You have to pick the right players, it doesn't matter where they come from.

Rodri never won anything anything before he came, Haaland won the Austrian League and that's it, Doku didn't win anything, Gvardiol didn't win anything, Stones didn't win anything, Kompany maybe won the Belgian League or something. Two of the top attackers in the World right now came from Leeds (Raphinha) and Crystal Palace (Olise) with no experience of winning anything.

Massively disagree, Haaland and Gvardiol both won cups playing for teams with a certain expectancy level with them clubs, also brought Champions League experience. Doku…it’s hardly a great example. It’s took him 3 years, that’s exactly what I’d like to avoid.

Re Raphinha/Olise signing the odd one isn’t bad, they joined teams with lots of experience to begin with. If we lose Rodri/Bernardo/Stones, thats a huge loss of experience and then to replace them with projects, 21 year old midfielders/wingers…its laughable.

Projects. That sounds more laughable.
Stones hasnt played all season.
Rodri and Bernardo are very hard to replace, if even possible. Players mentioned like Tonali and Anderson are probably as good as is available.
We are not as weak as some think we are.

The defence, with Gvardiol and possibly Reis , coming in looks very strong.
Midfield may be the only department where we buy in players.

Anyone brought in will be joining a team with experience, just as you point out above happened with Raphinha and Olise.
My only concern for next season is if both Pep and Rodri to depart.

I think Phil could adapt to replace Bernado, if he can get his mojo back. We need a quality long-term defensive midfielder and a right back. Despite Nunez’s excellent season, we need another. Dias seems increasingly injury-prone and Ake has been unlucky not to get more game time (I am sure he wouldn’t have done what Guehi did yesterday.)

Vitor Reis is so far untried and Alleyne never really got a look in, so it will be interesting to see what we do to to shore up the defence next season. Akanji has gone, as they have triggered the option to buy.at least Josko should be back so hopefully we won’t need much incoming activity in the summer.

What I would do right now regarding planning and to do with the right back position, is go to the scouts and ask them who’s the best u23 right back in the world right now potentially.

Bring him in , Nunes has been phenomenal but he’s played a lot of minutes as he’s our only recognised right back. Bring this u23 player in with high potential and that then provides a rest for Nunes but also competition.

Fresneda or Palestra

Maza/smit and all these other names I’m seeing are projects. Madness people want to do it all again.

Stones hasn’t played but even Pep said how important he is in the dressing room. Rodri and Bernardo are very hard to replace, mainly because of how experienced they are, which is my point. The team is definitely weak mate, they get bullied. After that tackle on Doku not one player backed him up or put any sort of pressure on the ref, or even left one on an Everton player. They are weak and they’re De Bruynes words from last season.

Also a goal scoring winger is surely a must.

We haven't been a top team since the Treble Season honestly. Even in 2024.. we needed Rodri & Phil to cover so many cracks.. they won BDor & POTY.

And Rodri being out exposed our cracks again.. the rebuild isn't done. We need to get the incomings and outgoings correct to be a sustained top team!

IMO We've seen flashes of brilliance from Cherki and Doku that they could become KDB & David Silva type midfield.

But we need a world class 6 to replace to Rodri and that has to be the first thing that needs solving.

And I'd get another winger to move Doku more central.

So just to confirm, the recipe is:

- Buy world class player,
- Must be really young but not a 'project',
- Must be old enough to already be performing at world class/ Ballon d'Or winner level,
- Must already be a proven winner in a major league,
- Cannot be from a mid-table side but must also be a bargain,
- Must want to come here but not for the money - ideally childhood fan / descendent of City legend,
- Did I miss anything?

Tracks back and isn't cup-tied.

Ridiculous really. The only requirements should be right age, good attitude, good technical floor and good physicality

Is that Messi we talking about ? Yamal?

Wow cup wins. By this logic we should go out and buy 11 players from the Old Firm and we'd be unstoppable. The level of expectation and number of trophies they win is unparalleled.

It's the player that's important, not the team they're in, you can't judge one guy off the achievements of an entire organisation. It's a team game, not an individual sport.

That’s not that logic though is it, stop being dramatic. They’ve won things playing for a club with a level of expectancy, that’s what makes the player. Would you not prefer to sign players who have experience in winning things and don’t take 3 years to finally get to the level required. I mean that’s what we all talk about being important in title races… or carry on with signing Savhinho/Doku’s if you want.

-Olympic-level sprinting skills
-No injuries/injury history. Multiple seasons of proven 60+ game availability (but not tired)
-From shitty national team, so will not have extensive international commitments
