The Squad planning thread

I think the emphasis this summer needs to be on getting players who are in the 22-25 age range, and are physical, especially in midfield.

I can count 10 points we have dropped this season by just getting outmuscled in the second half of games. I would seriously consider looking at Bellingham. If Madrid seriously appoint Mourinho, someone should ask Jude if he wants to play through another turbulent season or two in Madrid or does he want to come home. I think he is technically talented enough to be the best midfielder in the world and would instantly improve every aspect of our midfield.

You seriously need some counselling with ideas like that, some magic mushrooms you're on.

I'm not interested in physicality over technical ability. Watch Vitinha. It's so hard to lay a glove on him. He's got the short burst of pace but overwhelmingly it's his incredible technique and vision that sees him dictate games. Someone like him alongside Rodri would dominate every game in the PL.

He's not a realistic option but I trust the club to go and get another 3-5 top quality players to push us forwards again. We need to be in a position where every single position on the pitch is a debate and there's no drop off when we rotate. A RB, two midfielders and a versatile winger/10 would be the minimum.

Bernie and Stones going. Kovacic and Ake into their final year. Reijnders, Nico, Savinho, Marmoush still failing to prove themselves consistently... some big calls to make.

Going to be hard to get the amount of players sold this summer! See loans away Riejnder Gonzales
We don't want or need to sell many, any that go will mainly be those that want to, we should be doing our best to keep Gonzalez and I expect Reijnders to be given another year.

If pep stays and I believe he will those two players won’t get hardly any game time!

We have 28 squad players silva stones are going, now question marks with Ake Marmoush Reijnders and maybe Gonzales! Lot of plates in the air!

Put aside the past two years in Madrid.

He has been in a horrible situation there with a club that is a mess from top to bottom. I don't think anyone could do well there. I think if you got Bellingham in City's culture and the infrastructure here, he would be a much different player and character than you see in Madrid.

He is phenomenally talented and would tick every single box we need in midfield.

If Pep stays then Rodri won’t okay 60 plus games and it will probably be Rodri’s last season and Gonzalez will be the preferred alternative, pretty sure he’ll be persuaded to stay carry on learning the position and try to be the one to step into Rodri’s shoes. Reijnders has only been here a season it would be very unusual for us to let him go after just one season.
Ake and Marmoush will most likely want to go and we’ll let them but don’t think we’d force it same with Savinho.
Players will leave but don’t think any will be club led departures. If I was to randomly rate the likelihood of players leaving out of 10 it would be
Bernardo ,Stones. 10
Trafford, Grealish. 9,
Marmoush, Ake. 8
Savinho 7
Gonzalez, Reijnders 6
Phillips 3,

He contributes vastly to the situation you mention. No way would he knuckle down and be part of a team. His father also wouldn’t allow him to go anywhere where he is not front and centre of attention. Not the type of player we ever go for and I don’t expect that to change anytime soon.

Just give Bernardos salary to Bruno Guimmares and Stonesey to Anderson.

A whole buck of our problems gonna be fixed just by that

LIked where this started and then it took a turn .....

We need more in the midfield than those two. Even if we add Anderson to replace Bernie's spot on the roster (not that he'll replace Bernie, exactly) we still need more in the MF. Still harbor some hope that Reijnders will give us soemthing. Nico? Go to Italy.

Do we ? That would give us a starting midfield of Rodri, Anderson and Cherki, with Gonzalez, Foden, Reijnders and O’Reilly to back up. Unless one of those leaves ,possible but unlikely, then we don’t have room for 2. Not saying it won’t happen but its not something you can just wish into existence, and doubt we’d push any of those out.

Savio was a top three prospect in La liga, Doku in Ligue 1 etc. Sometimes it’s not easy to have the patience with these young players but it’s a necessary sacrifice for the lower transfer fees.
I don't agree that Savio was one of the brightest prospects in Europe. He had one good at season at Girona and that was good enough for us to sign him because it was low risk because of his CFG connection. I agree with Doku though.

I don't think Nico stays if Pep does, and I think we need athleticism in the MF regardless, so I think we need more than Anderson, yes.

I'm not questioning that, I was backing up the point that not one of them was signed from a so-called 'elite' club.

Like the previous poster said you can't just judge a player's ability on the club they play for and their achievements.

We signed Ake having been relegated with Bournemouth and 3 years later he'd won 3 Premier League titles and a treble, starting the CL final.
I don't know about that. Silva was at Valencia and a Spanish international, Aguero was at A.Madrid and an Argentinian international. KDB was a Belgium international who was recommended to us by Vinny.

Ake cost us £40m and if I remember correctly at the time there was a collective headloss on this forum, myself included.

It won't take a lot to improve us.
