Will we win the league this season? No

There is now a significant possibility of the 6th placed side getting a CL spot. Bournemouth are currently in 6th!

You can view this development positively or negatively. Bournemouth won't know then if Villa have won the Europa League but it is going to become a goal for them. It might be good for City if they feel they have to win the game.

I am not sure but it is something extra to consider perhaps closer to the time.

This is exactly right while people are concentrating on Villa at home they are ignoring that the harder game Bournemouth away just got harder. Villa winning yesterday isn’t great at all. Bournemouth can now go for 6th place and possible CL football and where are they right now? 6th.

But really any team can look at certain results and say they should be in a better position. Arsenal will look at games in which they dropped points against lesser sides and think they should have it wrapped up by now. That's the nature of league football. It happens.

So i don't think dwelling on certain past results too much is worth it.

I think when the run in comes, the last half a dozen games, they're the results that should come under more scrutiny because you know the job in hand and it's all about handling your nerve.

Should we not win the title and it becomes evident that Everton game is what really fucked it, I'd pinpoint that game to scrutinise the result more than some draw back in December.

That Everton game is a shocker from us really. We know the task and what's needed over 5 games to win the league and we fucked up. I wouldn't mind if we went to Everton and it was an even game from start to finish and it was a draw, then it is what it is. We were winning and imploded and shat the bed over the space of 15 mins. Yes we got a draw but that's not what we needed. We would be pissing ourselves if that was Arsenal.
They wasn't in December though. 2 points dropped were in Feb and 4 were dropped in March. I do agree to an extent looking back on particular fixtures isn't always a good way of doing it but I'd say that was true if it were 1 offs and we dropped 3/4 points maximum against the bottom five, but dropping 9 points against them is excessive. Hard for any team to win a league if you're dropping that many points against the weakest opposition.we'd be nowhere near in a strong season.

Bournemouth can afford a loss and are due one

We are at home on the final day to a Villa side that will have just played a European final. They will be mentally exhausted.

Palace will have yet to play their game, and although they may rest some players it will be Glasner's last home game and I don't think a South London Palace will want to let Arsenal win the title. I prefer our fixture to Arsenal's. At the very least, our final game looks much easier than it did.

Completely agree regarding Villa, but if we need a favour off Palace, I wouldn't expect one with them having a final 3 days later.

Imagine the uproar on here if they rest most of their 1st team..... don't think they will give a toss who wins the league, they will all want to make sure they aren't injured for a European cup final (which they will be perfectly entitled to do)

Yes I know the league has been in our own hands but there has been three decisions in matches that have probably impacted our challenge more than anything else.
1. The non red card against the rags early on at the swamp. Then playing most of the game with only 10.
2. The non red for Gabriel. Meant that Arse were not without him (a major central defender) for 3 of their last 5 games.
3. The non red against Everton, see above.

Do you detect a pattern here? Three major games with 'poor' refereeing decisions that may well have impacted major games.

So , to be clear:
Everyone is letting Arsenal not win it
Or No one is letting Arsenal win it
Or everyone is not letting Arsenal win it

Or something
Ha ha

Sorry, typed in a rush

Lets try again

The refs and the league will ensure, and have been with decisions they have made that Arsenal win the league.

Even with that help they have still struggled.

They are not a good side

So can Brentford.
Its an unusual situation that our last 4 matches are against 2 teams that are in a European final and the other two fighting it out for a CL place.

Villa getting to the final helps us a lot for the last game but palace getting to their final too helps arsenal more.
Villa winning the final is probably the best outcome for city and they will be on the piss for a few days.
Palace rested a load for the semi and got pumped. They'll rest even more against arsenal.
Saying that, it could be over before then anyway so we'll have to wait and see.

Remember Ferguson won the league title before he left - aging core of players carrying substandard additions, having the absolute last efforts squeezed out of them to get over the line. But their board just saw the win, didn’t push hard to facilitate the necessary upgrades that summer and have spent the past 13 years chasing former glories.

We are also about to say goodbye to our most successful coach, and set to lose key playing elements of our era of dominance. For the first time in his career, Pep is actually overachieving getting us anywhere near this title with these players. Maresca won’t necessarily be able to do that, so could be our Moyes if he isn’t backed abundantly.

Winning the title might lead to more Semenyos and Gonzaleses, rather than the absolute best in class options that we probably need about 5 of to restore and sustain the level of the previous 18 years at the club.

It gets even more bizarre. Watch the video below particularly the end bit where to qualify for the CL Brentford or Brighton might have to LOSE the final game.

Something that takes that much explaining isn't worth it! Wait to see if that situation occurs and then explain it.

Are you including Pelegrini’s last season in that?

Which was ultimately a consequence of signing Mangala, Fernando and geriatric Lampard in 2014.

Ideally we win the league, but also acknowledge and address the squad’s shortcomings - they don’t have to be mutually exclusive, but I fear Viana’s methods will be wrongly vindicated and therefore perpetuated with a title win this year.

No they can’t, Brentford are one point behind them and Brighton 2 so they can all get 6th place and a CL spot if Villa win Europa and finish 5th in the PL both of which are now likely after last night.
Do our job and defeat brentford and that does Bournmouth a favour. Brighton won’t get there

Add to the three in one game at Newcastle and it becomes pretty clear how Masters has earned his bonus !

Bit of pressure off us so reckon we'll spank Brentford tomorrow. Then....... " Hello, is that West Ham".....
